Question for the Gasoline/Petrol owners out there. What kind of milage are you seeing on the road - normal driving and not towing anything. Hearing some are only getting 15mpg (15L/100KM). Curious to see what others are getting with a car probably broken in by now

Petrol Trialmaster 1400 miles.

MPG is around 19 mpg with general driving, no towing and a few spurts of a heavy right foot.

I have never been down to 15 even with some spirited driving.

I have however noticed that this has started to creep up, and is starting to get over the 20mpg and more towards 21mpg as the mileage climbs.

I will say this is taken from the vehicle, no manual calculations.

Thank you - that really helps. 15mpg as we've heard here is just a bit thirsty....

So that’s 19 British MPG? That’s 15.8ish US MPG.

Diesel wagon
First 200km, flat 110kph motorway and a bit of suburban, nil wind. Settled around 11.4l/100 (21mpg). I was quite surprised it was this good out of the blocks.

Next 1200km. Mostly 110kph motorway with a bit of up and down - 11.6l/100 (20mpg)

Next 200km, highway at 100kph but stiff headwind - crept up to 11.8l/100 (19.9mpg).

Australia, both diesel and petrol are now at $2.20 and have been for nearly 2 weeks in our area. No sign of it coming down... funnily enough oil is up only about $6US a barrel (or 8%) yet prices here have gone from $1.59 to $2.29 in the same two weeks. I think like Alan Joyce ripping of Quantas customers - fuel importers are doing the same!

I think the biggest issue really is the truck’s sheer weight. It’s hundreds of pounds heavier than full size 150/1500 pickups and heavier than anything like it.

Yep - something to think about. It's annoying that there is no diesel option for the US - though I realize the emissions rules make it very difficult.

Sounds like the gas mileage is a pathetic as we thought then....

Yeah. It sucks but wouldn't bother me so much if it had higher fuel capacity. Granted the aftermarket will probably find a solution but that's just more money into the vehicle. Would have been nice if they had used the space for the diesel adblue tank to increase the capacity for the petrol engine.

So - I was genuinely surprised by the poor fuel economy of the petrol. Don't get me wrong I knew it wouldn't be good and I'm OK with relatively low fuel economy we have an ML63 and a A8 6.0 W12 in the family fleet.

I just drove down to Toulouse at back which was a total round trip of 1500miles. The fuel economy at 75mph was 18.5mpg (UK gal) which is 12.7l/100km
I really thought we would be well over 20mpg but alas......no.

Anyway - I enjoyed the trip and said "am I bovered?"

Someone took this (not ideal focused) picture for me today. Going 160 gps km/h (roughly 100 miles per hour) it shows 166 km/h and takes between 18,5 and 20 liters per 100 km/h. While it is irrelevant for nearly everyone outside of Germany this is between 11.7 and 12.7 mpg (US) and between 14.1 and 15.3 mph (UK).

100 mile trip today. Diesel commercial, 5 people plus tools in the back. Managed 24.5mpg Imp. 11.5 l/100km. The roads were A1 and A697 Northumberland. Lots of elevation changes and a good few bends. No faster than 65 mph.

This is very similar to what my 2.2tdci defender did.
Edit: I should mention that I’m running 285/70-17 tyres so this is probably a more realistic mileage figure than the stock vehicle. The speedo on mine now reads about true.

Unfortunately when driving large, boxy, slab fronted, heavy bricks on motorways your fuel economy really suffers.

Interesting
Earl reports were that they were going to be speed limited to 150kmh
Aren't the tyres 170kmh speed rated?
