Harry’s Farm and Garage. Why does Harry Metcalfe hate the Grenadier?

@Zimm said "I've always blown my money on sexy, crazy, pointless broads. This truck is a side ass, not sensible. I want it."
Broads with heels or wheels?;)

A much admired teacher of English the senior (boys) high school I attended was famous for his practical advice to his young charges... viz: "Lads, remember: two words beginning with "t" are the downfall of many otherwise fine young men. I refer of course to "tits" and "tyres". Tread carefully! " That was 60 yrs ago. His smiling face and sage advice came to mind when I "purposefully" tapped the "enter" key to pay the Grenadier deposit!:giggle:

60 years later, I’d lose my job faster than one could blink if I said that in class. And, not only would I be vilified in the press and social media, I’d have trouble even getting another job. Even though it’s good advice 🤣

60 years later ...

... the world is full of moralists.

And at night they watch their porn in the lonely closet.

I don't care about the latter one, to each his own. But the moralist part is mendacious.

The world of education has certainly changed tremendously in my 20 years on the job. Some for the good, some for the bad, and some that just can’t make up.

Unrelated note @emax - what are the blue things at the very bottom of your signature?

Uncompleted work (yet).

I have registered all my vehicles on "spritmonitor.de" and save all my fueling, costs and routes there. They support a forum code (BBcode) to display an icon in the signature that shows the consumption. I have added this BBcode to my signature and so you can see my consumption - which is currently zero as I don't have my Grenadier yet. There are two such icons, one in l/100km and the other in mpg.

In my case, it currently shows l/100km both times, but I think that's because of the missing data (yet).

But have a look at @Arkaig's postings, he has the same and there you can see how it will look hopefully later after my first refueling.

spritmonitor.de is for free.

(sprit == German slang for fuel)

Have to say this review by Harry on the Aston Martin SUV, entitled something like could it cope with daily life in the farm. Where he gives it basically a glowing review as opposed to his dismissive review of the Grenadier, tells you all you need to know about who his channel and content is aimed at.

In my garage, I have a VW Touareg R V8; it's much less pretentious than a squillion-dollar Aston or Bentayga. There are no soft-close doors on the VW, but with my 800 Newtons, it can tow anything if my Grenadier fails, and we know that won't!! No offence was meant to those in the UK, but a serious level of "entitlement" appears. Some people have no idea about the real world. Harry says "Civilised" about the Aston. Does he understand the new world?

I had a chat with Harry about his Grenadier assessment when I met him in the Summer and he admitted that he did this on a pre-production vehicle, I suggested that he tries out a new one and he seemed amenable to the idea if Ineos Automotive loaned him another one.

Hopefully Harry will modify his thoughts if he does this!

First off I’d say that I really like Harry and enjoy his content. I’ve got every issue of Evo and read PC before that, both of which he was involved with.

It’s important to remember he didn’t like the original Defender, he’s been quite open about it and although he had a new defender on loan for a year and liked it he still didn’t buy one. He uses an L322 as his farm car. Thats the most telling thing. So what he’s looking for isn’t really what the grenadier is.

He acknowledges it’s not an SUV and wants automated e diffs and such like, something just easy to use without thinking about it. Manual lockers were a purposeful decision for Ineos, as were solid axles and ladder frame of course.

Again, he’s comparing the steering with rack and pinion, that’s a compromise that was a deliberate decision, again on purpose.

The weight issue, sure, we all recognise that!

I’m not bothered he doesn’t like it, he wants an SUV with some off-road capability, not a utility vehicle.

I have actually stopped watching Harry both his Farm and Garage, it is clearly a monetising channel (well I suppose they all are). But he is most definitely biassed depending on the manufacture and the kick back. I now watch Throttle House and other similar channels.

I like his other content, particularly his classics, he has an XJC and so do I he has an F-Type Jag and I had one too. I just don’t think he is the right guy to review a Grenadier

TBH I'm over him too. The farm stuff is just on repeat themes now, and I'd much rather waste time watching Tyrells classic workshop. IMO someone who actually works on cars is more interesting than just another motoring journalist.

So that Aston SUV Martin has a Merc engine. Hadn't realised they were majority stakeholder.

Thanks, an excellent reponse and I agree with your comments! He is good and deserves the extensive following that he has gained.
