Americas What is your petrol US gal mpg?

On my trip home from the dealer, went through one full tank of gas, all highway. Averaged 75mph, though I did constantly vary the speed from 65 to 85 because of break-in.
Computer said 16.6 mpg.
Calculator at the pump said 13.8 mpg.

I performed the fill-up both at the start and the end of the tank.

Not good. Hopefully between a new vehicle and a sample size of one tank, this will improve.
Might get better milage in town than highway due to having the aerodynamics of a coke machine.
That's pretty poor. I hope it improves for you.

How do you know the dealer delivered you a completely filled tank? To do mileage calculations, you need to fill it yourself.

Im on a run to Phoenix in a couple of hours. I’ll see what I get.

Will it be decisive, probably not. But I bet it’ll add fuel to the fire. Especially as I’m going from -173 feet and up and over some lumpy bits.

@emax worked out the online fuel thing that keeps track of things. Also puts the info in your signature.

Anyone with some miles on want to fill me in on this? It still matters, especially with premium. I just did a 3k mile round trip to go off roading in my discovery with the TD6 and I don't expect the grenadier to match the 23mpg going 80-85mph to get there but I'm really hoping it's not the 14mpg.
The fuel consumption is not brilliant. I'm in Australia and we use liters per 100 kilometers. I have a petrol and get about 15 litres /100kms which is about 18 imperial MPG at about 70 MPH. I also use 98 octane but it's not the most aerodynamic thing in the world. On top of that, our fuel is around $2.20 per liter.

Across the Cascades, down through Idaho and into Utah. Lots of mountains, wind & speed.

Second tank:
Computer - 16.1
Calculator - 14.08

Probably 50/50 city/hwy

3rd and 4th tanks...

actual calculated mpg/ onboard computer
1) 13.8/ 16.6
2) 14.1/ 16.1
3) 13.4/ 15.7
4) 14.3/ 16.7

On this last tank, I wanted to see how accurate the gauge is, so I had a jerry can in the back and was planning to run it out of gas.
I never ran out, because I made it to the cheap gas station before running dry, but made some observations.
When the "range remaining" dropped below 30 miles, it changed from a number to dashes.
I drove at least 35 miles after the 30 miles remaining showed.
The fuel level gauge will fall down to the bottom bar.
336 miles. 23.5 gal fill-up.

@nuclearbeef. Thanks for calculations. One thing that I find important is the mph. Are you able to show numbers based upon you mph? It seems that those of us that drive on highway at a speed above 70, gets mpg in the 13 range.

I didn't get that deep into it.
Tank 1 was mostly highway.
2&3 were mixed
Tank 4 was almost all highway. Half on interstates where I drove between 78-83 mph; half highways with 55 mph limit where I drove 63-68.
BTW; these speed numbers are indicated speed from speedometer. 78mph on speedo = 75mph gps speed.

I’m wondering if running it to full empty adjusts the calculations and makes it more accurate.

I got about 18 highway in my Raptor and about 12 in my 92 FJ80 so I’m prepared for the latter but am hoping for the former.

@emax has that stat thing and it says 18.6 US MPG. but he has a diesel. That doesn’t bode too well.
Man wish I got 18 in the Raptor, my 2010 6.2 is getting 14-15.

So many opinions, so few facts.
First tank of 91 octane driving on-road and 10 to 15 miles off-road....13.2 MPG calculated.
Trip computer claims 16 MPG. Four hundred total miles on the clock so far.
Hopefully MPG will increase when the motor is broken-in

I just crossed 1000 miles. I calculated 15.56mpg (305 miles and 19.6 gallons to fill) in mixed driving. Computer claimed 18 since the last reset. Again, this is winter grade fuel.

What’s winter grade do to it?
