Americas Getting Rip off by my dealer

I think Norb-TX is just trying to distinguish between the argument that configurator selected accessories should be installed free and accessories purchased post vehicle purchase would understandably have an installation fee.
Gotcha.

I just figured I would be charged by dealer, I was hoping not but not surprised to see it. I know some dealers are not charging. I will be interested in the response from INEOS.

It's not free, it's included in the price when you spec out your Gren. That's how option pricing works normally. If that's how Ineos want to do it, they should have all dealer accessories in a separate category, not next to options like the sunroof or lockers.

Not sure if this was posted but this is from the price sheet last year.

"Accessory prices shown are not final, exclude taxes. The price shown is the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) and does not include the cost of installation. The purchase and installation of Accessories must be agreed directly with an INEOS dealer."

If they'd kept this language I think there would be a lot less excitement today. At least for acceptable labor costs anyway.

Well, this is in my order summary:

I imagine it is in everyone's.

I for one already told my salesman I will not take delivery until its all their, and installed. But those FL prices are INSANE. That is gouging those perceived to have money. I do not like that. California shop rates can be 2.5-3X the National average. But in this case they are 1/3rd of Florida! Somethings wrong....I would do the rack myself and for 100.00 have my shop do the checker plates.
I would pick up the accessories and do it yourself or find a shop - those prices are insane!

It really depends on the dealership, I paid and took delivery of my G without side runner and tailgate table (since they were not in stock), but my dealership (Curry at Danbury) scheduled a service appointment for me to go back and have them installed recently, It was a bit of long drive back and forth plus some waiting, but there isn’t any additional cost for installation.

Quite convenient that they get you to buy vehicle, and don’t mention accessory installation costs only to have those accessories “magically” appear the following day with an outrageous installation cost. Extortion. The labor (at most) should be std shop rate for the amount of time ineos puts on the installation instructions. Your dealers shop rates are like $600 hr, which is extremely high. That kind of crap gives Ineos a bad name.

I am installing the roof rack myself, if I decide to purchase (won’t fit in the garage with it) because the install price is too high for my taste.

Man, I'm pretty sure I'm paying somebody to install my checker plates. I don't have a pop rivet tool and lining up and drilling holes in the top of the fenders is too high a pucker factor for me. 😅

A little birdy from another market mentioned that while the cost of the accessories to the customer is supposed to be the installed price and that they aren’t charging customers extra. The amount INEOS pays them for the install is in some cases is about 1/3 of the actual installation time cost to them.

FWIW, I had a conversation about this very subject with the GM of the LR dealership I bought my ND from. He stated the vast majority of the options you pick when you place an allocation order are installed either at the factory or at the port. LR has similar verbiage about their options if you build a vehicle online, I.e that labor rates are not included. I wanted to know as I was building my ND, if I was then going to pay an additional labor fee for install. He told me 100%, I would not and that it was included in the price.

In addition, he said that if the accessory was installed by the dealer, he would have to charge the customer a labor fee because LR doesn’t give him a credit or reimbursement for work performed. In the case of the ND the only option, (which wasn’t available online as a build option anyway) the dealer installed was the winch. Everything else, including things like PPF were installed at the port. I only mention PPF because IMO, it’s a time consuming fiddly job, that you would think they would pawn off to the dealer.

I wonder if IGs port infrastructure isn’t mature enough to handle the workload coming through at the moment, so they’re leaning on their dealers for this stuff.

When I asked what the “port” looked like, he said they were basically the service centers you see at dealerships on steroids, and of course all they do for the most part is install accessories and make repairs to minor damage which occur during the shipping process.

I'd tell them to load my stuff in the back, buy a case of bud light and invite a friend over to lend a hand.

Of course, nothing would get done - so I'd say do this on a Saturday so that you have Sunday to actually get the stuff installed.
Please don't buy Bud Light... for so many reason.

The port infrastructure is the same as any other brand that uses W&W shipping; it's all W&W technicians working on whatever comes through that the port handles (or in the case of Baltimore, W&W is on two separate sides of the port, each handling different vehicles). A large percentage of their technicians were previously dealer techs, not necessarily for the brand(s) they now import.

If I were wagering a guess, it's handed off to the dealerships in part to allow them to get a bit of extra income and because that is the method for the RoW (as far as I know)
