So this one is the transmission cooler?
View attachment 7822835

From the general BMW engine schematics, the transmission cooler/heater (item 7) is a transmission fluid to coolant heat exchanger rather than a coolant to air type?

I had previously thought this radiator was most likely the high pressure exhaust gas recirculation cooler (item 15); but obviously we are all in the dark without official Ineos schematics.
The transfer case cooler on the LHS is an oil cooler, not sure re the auto trans cooler on the RHS. Would be good to know 100% from a spares point of view for remote travel...

Assuming the RHD/LHD vehicles have the same cooling orientations, that is an aux radiator; the transmission cooler is on the (LHD) driver's side
This is what I was told at Ineos event rhat the right hand side is an auxiliary radiator 👍🏼

I'll add the fact that I'm not 100% the left hand side unit is for transmission oil or transfer case oil, but is 100% a cooler of a non-engine coolant type fluid that smells like transmission fluid

The LHS is transfer case oil cooler, directly connected to the transfer case...oil is Titan Sintopoid 75w90

The LHS is transfer case oil. My hose was cut, lost 2.1 L oil and had to refill the transfer case with the recommended oil after removing the cooler....in the middle of nowhere...
Wow 😮 was that damage caused whilst out on the trail 🤔. If so and it’s vulnerable then maybe need to keep some transmission fluid on board.

I would absolutely take some it is Transfer Case Titan Sintopoid 75w90, last thing I expected to happen...being prepared with spares fluids and bush mechanic handy work...back on the road in a couple of hours...given we were in the Great Victorian desert, could have been a problem....

Good advice. I’ll pick up all fluids when I arrive in SA. How did you bush fix the hose 🤔

Is this the incident where the fixing bolts/nuts worked loose?

Ultimately had to take the cooler out, joining the two ends of the hose together, as attempts to cover and stop the leak failed. Here is the spec of the main fluids if you can't get the exact one, find the same spec in a good quality product.
Transfer Case Titan Sintopoid 75w90 or 75w85

Axle oil. per – SAE 80w90

Anti-freeze. (BMW LC-18, HT-12 with part number 83192468442 )

Brake fluid.
(DOT 4)

Engine oil Diesel
B57 Diesel oil specs: C2 0W-30 ACEA C2 API SP BMW LL-12

Engine oil Petrol
B58 Petrol oil specs: C5 0W-20 ACEA C5 API SP/RC BMW LL-17FE+

Auto Transmission oil
Lifeguard 8 - ZF S67109031201

Power Steeering oil - CHF 11S Pentosin Oil.

I can't find the thread but this table came from Ineos Customer Services:

So is there anything you think we could be doing to ours now to stop the same thing happening to someone else?
Not sure, I would check the bolt visible between the bumper and front of the car under the light holding the bracket in place to make sure it is tight, on both sides

I think it speaks to the level of technical expertise employed in the response. 😖

However, it does quite well in illustrating the bolts that caused an issue for @Telliottaus. 🙌

Will be interesting to look when I get my car back as it looks like the bracket in the photo is different to how it was installed in my car....I may be wrong...
In general the position of the coolers could make them vulnerable in the event of hitting a kangaroo. Confident I could sort a lhs impact, transfer case cooler if i needed to, but the auto trans always runs hotter and you prob need the cooler more.

Wow, just wow, yet another thread highlighting major issues, every time I convince myself “ it’s not that bad just order one “ another problem arises.
Maybe I should stop looking at this forum
Anyway the question is, why so many guesses on what’s what and what goes where?
One of the big sales pitches and a major incentive for me is the access to workshop manuals with all technical data available to the customer and all workshops.
Has this been another well maybe, na not really moment?

Well MattA, it seems every couple of months we get someone appear on the Forum just like you.
After several posts like this they disappear.
Maybe the forum is more helpful than you might think in assisting you to make a difficult decision.
Personally I would think 99.99975% of the people out there who look at the Grenadier will say yeah........nah

Spent many years on forums for many different makes. All the same for all vehicles, enthusiast owners always find all the flaws and share and solve them as a group and the less enthusiastic ones end up on forums when they experience a problem and are looking for solutions. Those who don’t have problems and don’t go looking usually never end up on forums. There are issues, they will be solved over time, some by manufacturer some by aftermarket and some by enthusiasts. The lack of follow through on promises of detailed information from the manufacturer is though a disappointment I must say. I believe we will eventually get something but later and not as freely available as we were led to believe it seems.
