Just a side note. Posting a bunch of accusations and refusing to identify the perpetrator, while leaving the door open to a couple other possibilities that would be unjustly implicated as a result of the speculation caused, is no less immoral than the alleged behavior in question.

There’s absolutely no reason for any of this. And customers that purchase 100k vehicles aren’t “beta” testers. That’s a rose colored glasses view of things. Do you think every time BMW releases a new model the owners see themselves as “beta” testers? FFS seriously? U have a G87 M2 one of the first of the factory line. It has had no issues. I don’t spend 80-100k to be a “beta” tester. The problems they are having are bull shit on the best of days. Most of what’s going on never needed to happen. And the software issues are complete BS. My BMW updates almost monthly. And Ineos in almost a year can’t figure out how to fix a fuel gauge error. How it is so many owners can accept absolute crap and think “I’m a beta tester” so “it’s ok” that this 100k vehicle is complete and utter terrible quality control. Water leaking through safari windows isn’t “beta testing” it’s crap build quality.
I leased a BMW i8 and I definitely was a beta tester. I actually didn't mind being a beta tester; what I minded was the factory wouldn't talk to me directly. They'd tell the dealer "We need to replace the entire fuel system because of a sender problem. We'll ship it from Munich." and they'd never tell me what was going on, just they needed a month.

Similar issue with my Porsche Panamera Hybrid. During the pandemic I left the car plugged into the hybrid wall charger and the 12V battery died. Porsche said it was my fault! I asked the dealer for a systems diagram showing how the 12V battery is charged and they said "ask the factory." I asked Porsche customer support and they said "Ask the dealer." It seemed plausible to me the 12V battery would be charged off the hybrid bus and the idea I'd have to plug both ends of the car into the wall never even occurred to me. Still don't have the systems diagram.

Point is Ineos is a startup car company with some great dealers (my dealer in Boise is fabulous) and some apparently not great dealers. And pretty normal OEM refusal by the factory to talk to customers.

My big worry for Ineos is survival: the stop-build caused by Recaro shows how fragile their supply chain is and Ineos is only a going concern as long as it remains somewhat fun for Ratcliffe to keep pouring cash into it.

I remember the day someone told me about the Grenadier about two years ago. I researched the car and followed the updates prior to finding the exact one that I wanted. I drove over 100 miles with my father to look at it. He was so excited for me. It was honestly a day I'll never forget (that's worth $90K, but not this car)
Let me also begin by saying how much I love this car. I love that it's utilitarian, it's low geared, I love it's aesthetic and the ethos behind the company / car. I love everything about it.... but then I bought one.

The Build:
*Scottish White
*Smooth and Rough Pack
*black leather seats
*saddle leather package
*High aux package
*Tow package
*18" steels / KO2's

Notwithstanding the foregoing, this has been my experience in the six (6) weeks that I have had my Grenadier:

The Issues:

[Please see photos and videos of all issues indicated below]

*ALL door seals have had to be replaced:
The dealer represented and warranted at time of delivery that ALL seals (i.e., doors, rear cargo, safari windows) were all water tight and had been tested twice.
However, all of them leak.
Having the experiences below, there is absolutely no way that the dealer could not have been aware of this issue. It is absolutely blatant.

*The Safari Windows leak:
They leak into the headliner, electronics, dashboard, and footwell from what I can tell so far.
Water flooded into the car from behind the rear view mirror, passenger door footwell and headliner. I had used my very low pressure hose to get rid of bird droppings; no car wash, no high pressure wash. A hose. Now, the interior is ruined... after 6 weeks.

*Headliner Stain:
Headliner permanently stained and dealer says i'll have to live with it.
I will not "live with this". As a $90K car, why would I even have to be dealing with this?
The previous car I had, the dealer and manufacturer bent over backwards to make sure that you were happy and that the car was 100%. This has been the OPPOSITE experience.

*Paint Gouge & "globby" undisclosed fix:
Approx two weeks after purchase, I noticed that the dealer covered up a gouge in the paint on the driver door with what looks like nail polish (photo attached). It's GLOBBED on. Dealer says if I want the original factory paint then there's nothing he can do. He can re paint the door but no guarantee re: color match. Unacceptable.

*Interior damage was present at delivery (I did not see it and the dealer did not disclose):
The driver side door appears to have scratch marks as if someone took a knife to it. One very long scratch is at driver side knee area is present. I only noticed it upon opening up the door to show a friend the car and she spotted the scratches.
The dealer begrudgingly offered to replace parts a month ago. No response. They don't pick up or call back.
Today I connected with them and they won't ship my local dealer the parts, I have to drive 150 miles to where I purchased the car to pick them up and have them installed.
This is unacceptable as this should never have passed inspection in the first place and now the dealer is telling me that they never told me that they would ship the parts to my local Ineos dealer.
Why is it that I have to get audibly upset in order to have anything done with these Ineos dealers and the company itself? I don't want to be that person, but I have no issue with doing so should the circumstances require.

*Rear Cargo area leaks:
Leak occurs even when doors are closed. Rubber gasket is warped beyond belief.

*Used parts provided and represented as "new":
Dealer offered to "throw in" rubber floor mats as the car has carpet, which I did not want, however, the rubber mats he provided were USED. They were not sealed and when I told him that they appeared used, he made unacceptable excuses.

*Driver Seat Fails to Engage:
Driver seat doesn't engage OR it engages when I have had to stop suddenly - point being that I pushed the seat back and forth hard to make sure the seat was locked and by all means I thought it was. However, it wasn't, and I didn't know until it could have been too late. The seat also engages "one click" to the left or the right. IMO, the "unengagement" of the seat poses a serious risk of injury, death, etc.

*Electronics have the usual quirks

*Carpetting is not cut properly and EVERYTHING sticks to it.
It costs approx. $5-6K to install the plastic flooring

*Grinding Noise (rear drive train):
This is concerning. At low RPM's, when I tap the accelerator and let go, just before I stop I hear a grinding noise. Some think it's the exhaust, however, the "grinding" vs "exhaust" note has become more pronounced.

*Saddle Leather Steering Wheel:
Buttons are "squishy" and a new steering wheel had to be ordered. I've owned the car 6 weeks and it needs a new steering wheel. Interesting.


Costs:
*Steering Wheel: $2,000
*Door Re-Paint quote (likely higher): $5,000
*Door Seals: Labor plus parts I would venture $2,000. Despite warranty these seals cost plenty as anyone who's bought parts from Ineos.

Labor for all repairs: $200/hr // Nearly $10,000
Steering wheel - "One day"
Door Seals - "One day"
Paint - 3-4 days work
Grinding Noise - 1 hr for inspection and unknown for repair
Seat - unknown but Recaro seats are expensive and with the news of the company's bankruptcy this could result in all seats requiring replacement
New Headliner - unknown but the entire headliner requires replacement + labor costs
Electronic Damage - unknown but the water got into the electronics

My point here is not to bash the Grenadier. I have wanted this vehicle for over two years. After 6 weeks, it's been nothing but problems, lies, driving to the dealer, waiting for parts.... Is that $90,000 gets you these days?

I also write this hoping that Jim Radcliffe himself sees how his company via the NA dealers are treating his customers. They are making you feel "lucky" to have the opportunity to give them your money and when something goes wrong, poof you can't get ahold of anyone to fix the issue. Again, all of these issues have occurred before I will make my second payment.

So, what will I do about this? Get all warranty work done and continually attempt to relay my experiences to the owner of this company. I am an enthusiast, not someone who wanted a less expensive G Wagon. This is unacceptable and a car that is "Purpose Built" cannot even remain water proof against a hose.

Please note that many dealers on the forum have tried to remove my post. Food for thought.
This is such a shame. I have had mine for 13 months, driven 46,000 kms and received excellent service. I have experienced none of the problems you have had - in fact I have had problems fixed that I did not know existed! This is not to say there weren't a few issues early on, but all have been resolved. I really hope Grenadier get hold of you and make things right!!!

At this rate their long term survival may be questionable. That being said only Recaro Germany has issues. Recaro USA is fine. It may just be new supply chain management. But if more owners keep getting bad service and poorly assembled vehicles it doesn’t bode well.

Here we go down a slippery slope.

As someone mentioned above, it will take a few years to get the kinks worked out. While I would like to think it should be sooner, the auto industry moves slow and if it's British, maybe even slower. Won't happen, but I'd love for Ineos to just say, Thanks guys, love you, working out the kinks, be patient, stay tuned. Because, as many things as they got right, I do think they are damaging their image with the small things they got wrong.

I have an early, ('23 VIN ....1607), RHD Diesel Grenadier which had some non-"breakdown at the side of the road" issues, that the dealer sorted, (door seals, software, water in the footwells, water in the sills, dodgy heater). Presently, I have an issue with the ECall system, an outstanding door seal replacement and some other non-stranding issues; I'm not going to get excited about them as the dealer has acknowledged the issues, the warranty is 5 years and they have done what they promised so far. The new car experience has been quite good, but hey! I'm English, quite tolerant and we have had some shockers in the past.

Vauxhall Nova 1.3SR - bad paint and door fit
Volkswagen Polo Coupe - faulty headlight switch on delivery day evening!
Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet - 4 new hoods, sensor faults, truly terrible dealer diagnostics, (wrong sensor, wrong fault)
BMW 530d - limp mode every time it was asked to join the M6 at the raised section around Walsall, rejected as "not of merchantable quality", (loom fault).

Ineos Automotive's retail communications have been laughably bad and they, (Ineos Group), do not seem to have grasped that B2B, (their usual mode), is vastly different from B2C. For example, IA had no mechanism for taking back vehicles for too many unresolved faults, (rejection under the Sales of Goods Act for being "not of merchantable quality"), notwithstanding that it is a statutory process. (They now have a process in the UK, but a few members of the forum will testify that getting there was not painless).

Manufacturing a complex mechanism like a large 4x4 is not easy and there is a lot of scope for getting it wrong. Something going wrong is not a surprise, the way to win friends and influence people is to fix it without a drama.

It's not British, it's manufactured and developed in Europe. Britains Jim Ratcliffe provided the money and idea. Anyway, stop knocking the Brits, the USA leadership is deplorable. The world should be behind the Israeli's, that does include our shameful government and the Democratic mess you have with Biden.

As for the vehicle, I believe its briliant, but I do agree INEOS need a better way to address the problems owners experience.

For example, occasionally I have sticking door buttons, rather than the vehicle been off the road for a couple of days, every few months I spray Silicone Spray on the buttons.

Funnily enough my vin in the 4000s has very few issues or defects that basically have no effect on me for the most part. However, the design of the RHD footwell, seat position, oversized console, acute lack of tilt and reach and general cabin space is more of an issue than all other issues combined, no matter how bad. But I do not seem as unhappy as the OP!!!

Use graphite powder rather than sprays, sprays will attract more dust/grim and continue to clog the mech.

That’s probably why Ineos has started Grenadier distribution in China, the world’s largest automotive market both in sales and units produced. Whenever the end is near, an automaker should expand in to larger markets with four new dealerships. That’s MBA level business theory. I don’t expect everyone will understand it. 😜🤣

The business areas Recaro Automotive Seating and Recaro Kids are operated by licensees. They are not manufacturers. They are resellers of German made seats. The Recaro Automotive Seating division is based in Germany where they have received approval for self administration - similar to Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization. The cause of this is yet another rumor - Recaro lost the VW contract, their largest.

Please keep in mind that everything is rumor and innuendo at this point. We will never know the actual business dealings due to confidentiality agreements that are standard in vendor / supplier contracts, meaning that Ineos may already be quite far along in talks with a new vendor or, maybe not? Either way, with the US port workers strike looking to be a day away, the supply side issue is about to spread to every brand distributed in the USA.

Note that Car and Driver is wise enough to use the term “reportedly”…

First — whatever the circumstances I really feel bad for you because I’ve had nothing but absolute joy with my Grenadier! And that’s how it should be with any new car, let alone one at this price and reputation.

I don’t know a ton about this but this car should be a buy back by the dealer. End of story.

While I truly sympathize, I’m compelled to say that it’s very uncool and sort of irresponsible (?) to not disclose the dealer (unless you finally did and I missed it). What is the benefit, for you or anyone else, not to? Given how upset you are, wouldn’t you want to spare anyone else from going through this? I don’t mean to judge but I don’t get it.

For what it is worth mine has been great. 1,200 miles in the first week and that includes about 400 miles off roads. Yes there are a few small issues like my back door sensor which I bypassed but honestly I feel like this is the best screwed together car I have ever owned and that includes past Porsches, BMW's, and Range Rovers. My off road shake down in the Eastern Sierra went extremely well and left me amazed at how capable these are. I went everywhere my friend went with his $180,000 custom built expedition rig.

I full well expect there to be some teething issues. It's a new car by a company who has never built a car before. Those will get sorted out and Rusnak in Pasadena is only 1.5 miles from my house and they have been great to work with so far.

I’m not saying it is or it isn’t. The internet is hardly reliable, as others have mentioned.

But I am highly skeptical that any reputable dealer or body shop would suggest $5000 to repaint a door. That’s a $1200 - $2000 repair and I’m being generous. I recently repainted all four doors on my LX470 - $800 per. A small chip like that could easily be blended. Regardless of guarantees, making an exact auto body color match is a settled science. I’m guessing that repair is actually closer to $500-$600.

Also, it seems suspect that every single door seal is in need of replacement. They're simple, rubber weatherstrip seals. How can they all go bad simultaneously? Same goes with the rear door gasket that is “warped beyond belief”. These claims seem a little outlandish. But again, I’m not saying it is or isn’t. Just my opinion.

The leaky safari windows are an easy fix that has been very well documented. If the leaks were left unattended for a long, wet period… maybe? But many people have experienced safari window leaks without receiving permanent damage.

I could go on but will finish with claim that the offending dealer is not named and the follow-up claim that many dealers are telling the OP to remove the post…

Sorry, but I am not that easily convinced. This is the kind of claim where names get named and, if it were me, I’d reveal my identity so that, if this did move up the chain, I could be reached to remedy the many, many problems.

Hmmm…. On Sept 4, 2024 OP posted that “the carpeting is great” while looking to trade / purchase the plastic floor. Nineteen days later, the carpeting is “not cut correctly and everything sticks to it”. The whole floor needs replaced…

Sounds to me like the biggest issue is the dealer, at least from your perspective. Many of the issues you have are noted extensively on the forums so shouldn’t be a surprise since you joined in August of ‘23. I have had nothing but great experiences with my dealer. They have replaced my transfer shifter as the pin had fallen out, replacing my windshield washer pumps, and just today replacing my drive shaft.

It is not only a new vehicle but a whole new company and dealer network. Consider yourself a beta tester and allow some leeway with your dealer and Ineos to address issues as they arise. As @Commodore noted you do have the option of the lemon laws if solutions aren’t provided.
I don’t even know how to respond to this (professionally). Best of luck to you.

Appreciate that. Despite my repeated attempts there’s no response from corporate and the dealer told me never to contact them again.

To all the dealers on this forum saying that they’ve never had an issue: STOP.

You sit here and complain and attempt to call out this horrible dealer, who's integrity? Yours? The Dealer? I understand the issue and anger but your not throwing them under the bus its poor workmanship at THAT dealer, and others in the community should be aware of. If you dont want to blast the dealer no one here can help you I dont have parts I do live near a M Styer facility you want their number? complaining here is not accomplishing anything.
I’m sharing my experience, not complaining. Prior to purchasing i looked through this forum to see what others were experiencing and I’m adding to that data. Have a lovely day

Corporate is aware of the dealer.

If you're in LA you have Rusnak and Sierra closer, which is certainly less than <150mi round trip. Warranty service like this can be handled at any dealer. If you're driving 150mi round trip, I'm guessing you're going down to Mossy in San Diego??
I wouldn’t guess.
