Sticking door handle button?

Mine sticks all the time, I find pressing the stuck button on the 3 o'clock position helps free it, normally within 2-3 pushes it springs back out.

I press the door button all the way in before applying graphite lubricant. I then work the button by pressing hard and hopefully allowing the lubricant to penetrate into the latching point. Hopefully this will eventually prove to be a permanent fix and not something I have to do on a regular basis.

Hi @Skydance, I know that, thank you for your hint. I meant WD40 silicone spray.
i have used WD40 silicone to unstick my passenger door handle buttons, but have notice that the need is becoming more frequent. Hopefully, the lubricant is not thickening with road dust/dirt and compounding the issue.

There is a recall on this issue which involves an extra washer going behind the push button to stop it going in so far and catching, contact your agent and they will sort this for you. (y)
I had that done about 3 months ago - drivers door. The button started sticking again 2 weeks ago. The agents are asking ineos for advice then getting it back in again for another shot at fixing it.

The buttons have been working for me since the last lubrication. And that was several weeks ago. I mean that I have only lubricated three times since April last year. There is a risk of dust and dirt sticking. I agree with you on that. But I estimate this to be low. I hope that‘s right. I lubricated the locks on the Defender for 20 years without any problems. But they didn't get stuck even without lubrication.

Had on the right front door now a sticking button, too. Have fixed the problem with this:

Got it as a sample on a fair, works!
so, one month with winter weather, low temperatures down to -10C , salted roads, snow, sunny… no button(s) stick again….. will wash the car next weekend and use the spray again

I am curious to see whether this will solve the problem. That would make me happy. If so, please let us know. Thank you very much.
Is anyone else experiencing a sticking drivers door external door button which prevents the door from
Latching into the B post door latch? Spray grease temporarily sorts it but it’s back in a couple of days?
Yup, it is just so boring. I find a bash to the door with my fist usually works. But it is a bit primitive!

I seem to be having the opposite problem - outside button works fine, but the door open handle in the rear feels “stuck” after about 30 degrees of opening, and doesn’t disengage the latch. Anyone seen this?

Ok shortly after this post went live I had a lightbulb moment - it was the child safety lock 🤦😂 Problem solved!

I discovered that the main "problem" with the rear (cargo) door button was not the button, but the Bowden cable and actuators which "grab" the metal 'loops' to effect closure. A short squirt of actuators with PTFE dry lubricant and a smear of white grease on the 'loops' ... the opening action became smooth and almost effortless. So I extended that to the other 4 doors... world of difference
Can you (or someone else who has done this) provide more detail about what to do here pretty please? My buttons are getting worse. Annoying when my son gets in the car when I pick him up, door fails to close, tries to slam shut again, fails to close again, needs to get out, pry the button out, reenter and then shut the door.

I used a graphite lubricant spray. Make sure to work it in well by pressing and depressing each button as far as you can for 20 - 30 times. Seems to work for me.

We find that if the rear doors are not used for a while the door knob sticks in, and whilst the doors are stiff you would assume the door is closed. I drove once for 12 miles on the Motorway at motorway speeds and when i got home i then saw the door was not latched into the frame, and curiously the open door warning never sounded - what if a child was in the back, and i dare not think what could have happened.

appreciate it but I want to try the other solution first.

Mine had the buttons fixed but didnt last for long now dealer fix is special Ineos approved grease.Smells very strong and got everywhere it was all over glass door card everywhere. They also cut large bit out of door seals which hasnt done anything and winch wouldnt freespool.Red winches say its an install fault.Ineos told dealer to pull rope out a couple of times and it would cure it but it hasnt. No air con for 12 months been re gassed 5 times and new pipe but still doesnt work dealer waiting further instructions from ineos.

Spray lots of silicone spray into the button and latch. Press the button couple of times and work it in. Works for me for now until a real fix is available (or maybe).

All that testing Ineos. I can tell you it’s gonna be shi*ty job doing all five doors. My dealer attempted to open up the door card last year when I first reported it. Only did one door and they forgot to put back all the door panel screws. I had one screw at the bottom of the door panel rattling around for ages until I fixed it myself 😡
