Since Christmas I’ve been slowly compiling an off-line document which I can print and put in my glove box that captures information missing from the owner’s manual and other useful bits and pieces.

I’ve now got it to a point where its ready to share with forum members. You can download the new PDF using the following link:

Use link at top of page now

The forum has been a great source of information so thank you all for your efforts. Posts I’ve drawn information from are referenced (if you need further info) and members acknowledged in the document.

I’ll update the link in this post and post an alert in the thread when I update the document. Any feedback, corrections or even additions are welcome. Happy for you to share provided you make acknowledgement to this thread.

If you print it out either use an A5 page and shrink to fit or an A4 booklet in adobe reader print settings..

May you find it useful.

Cheers

Steve

I am just now seeing this after it was mentioned in another post. Rok_Dr created an unofficial manual for all of us! For free! Firstly, thank you. Secondly, this is amazing. I've never seen someone put in this much work for a forum community. You re truly to be commended for this effort.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the updates to this exceptional document.

It might be worth adding that to engage front and rear diff locks, only a single press of the button is required. Most of the other buttons require a confirmation press but not the diff locks.

Only Off-road Mode and Wading Mode require a confirmation press. ESC OFF requires a 3 second press.

Excellent, again. 👏 (y)

Thank you so much!
This might become a legend.

....

An idea, if that's not too much effort: Word (and Libreoffice Write as well) offers a feature that automatically marks each change with a thin vertical line to the right or left of the body of the text.

For example, if the author publishes the document as a PDF, the changes are visible to readers.

After publishing, the author may want to commit the changes permanently and can therefore "Accept Changes" to start a new version.

Then, when the document is republished, readers will only see the new changes which were made since the last published version.

It's just very little work, two or three clicks, and would help readers see what's new right away.

Just a suggestion.

Thanks @emax.

I'm very familiar with the Word's review functionality and utilse it regularly for commercial and legal agreements with clients. For my technical document writing though there are significantly more changes, so in effect every page would have a highlight. At present the latest draft of the manual has over 400 changes compared to v4, ranging from simple spelling corrections and rewording to adding new content. It's for this reason I prefer to use a more traditional document control, version table at the end to capture the major changes.

Cheers
Steve

That should be enough.

For me, as a frequent reader of technical documentation (e.g. API references), the markings are indispensable and I like them very much - even if only a wording has been changed. They give me an immediate indication of where to look and so I don't miss any changes that might be important.

But of course it is your work, your choice. I am happy that you are doing it.(y)
