Let's get some perspective: Is your Grenadier AC working as it should?

Who else's AC is batsh1t crazy and randomly blows hot air one day and cold the next on the exact same setting? I don't think the AC system got the attention it deserved during the 1.2 million miles of road testing, that's for sure. I love my new truck but it's the one thing that drives me nuts on pretty much a daily basis as I fiddle away at the controls and I'm surprised Ineos haven't found a fix for it yet. I gather it's down to sticky solenoid valves or such like and is probably an expensive warranty concern for them.

It would be useful to set up a poll on this forum and get an idea of what percentage and numbers of owners here have flaky AC. This forum must represent a decent amount of the Grenadier owner population, perhaps it would help sharpen Ineos' perspective on the issue if it popped up on every Google search relating to Grenadier AC issues. I don't have the ability to raise a forum poll but maybe @Stu_Barnes would consider it a worthy exercise

Our AC is working well but I think there is a BIAS to the rear vents. For example, we have front or front and feet....The rear vents blow incredibly but the fronts, on either setting, takes a bit.....

I had this symptom + when floor vents where open I got warm air from the dash vents. Issue was low refrigerant. Once topped up my ac has been perfect. Dealer found it right away.

Agree very random.

Seasonal temps are beautiful right now. Generally no AC required, with occasional heat. Which brings us back to the mindless, crazy HVAC system and blowing 30 seconds of cold air even when the engine is up to temp.

mine has been on auto for the last 4500Ks...working ok.. then all of a sudden hot air from the rear vents...
tried it the next day and all working fine again....
must be a full stop or something in the code that's in the wrong place and accumulates over time and triggers....
I reckon it forgets what position the hot water valve is in.....
So even if you did manage to get it to a service centre and for them to see the fault... they still wouldn't know what the cause was...
Hopefully one eagle eyed programmer will pick it up and resolve the issue once and for all......

Mine can do very hot or very cold very well. So in middle of summer or middle of winter it is superb.

Anything in between full hot or full cold is a bit hit and miss. The auto function is weird and doesn’t work well at all so I use manual control. It’s slow to respond to changes in temp demand but gets there eventually.

On the plus side the heated seats are ferocious. Lovely in winter.

And in summer I usually have the windows open. Where I live rarely gets much above 25C though so it’s not that much of an issue.

The shortcomings are nowhere near a deal breaker for me but they are not befitting an £80k vehicle.

Naive question...but I read often that the problems occur suddenly...

...is it simply possible that the heat exchanger is iced? And the next morning it is defrosted?

This could indeed be one of the causes.
(I also have issues at startup with no possible iced exchanger)

Actually it is almost impossible to exchange directly with IA.
They want you to go through the dealer who have a very limited time to test while I spent hundreds of hours in my IG.

With a direct exchange I could provide more data regarding what/when/...

This is a critical point for managing beta programs or getting feedback on prototypes: getting as many details as possible directly from users, without intermediaries.

At least, after 17 months I got this email from my dealer:

"Random aircon problem: the blower or mixer flap doesn't do what it's supposed to. The engineers are working on the problem for the moment, but unfortunately no solution has been found. IA will let you know more by e-mail."

Maybe I am just extremely lucky, but when I found this thread and just read all these posts, I was surprised to be honest because I own two Grenadiers and both have never had any A/C or heater issues. I live in Louisiana and it’s hot & humid almost thru Christmas so really only use the A/C, and I LOVE me some cold air trust me on that! The A/C’s are ran constantly when I am using either vehicle (I have also sat stationary several times from 15minutes to over an hour). Yet I can’t even run either A/C’s past the #2 fan speed (a/c on, manual, face only, recirculating are the usual settings) or I will be an iceberg. Usually it’s on fan speed #1 and it’s plenty cold. Sorry to hear of everyone else’s issues. I have only had them for 6 months and they are MY24, so maybe they fixed the issues for these? I also have a couple of friends who now own these and they also live in the south and have the same experiences as me. Hopefully none of us get the A/C 🐛 🤞
