We only use imperial measurements for dicks, babies and distances.

Not as cheap as it used to be! Still cheaper than ours though.

Welcome to California....during the peak of Covid - paying over $9/gallon for diesel was a normal thing
Cali - leading the way to show the rest of the world 'how to wreck your economy!'. That is quite expensive even now at the stock barrel price...

Did a real world test today to check the accuracy of the on board computer…
Note My car is running 285/70/17 so not standard tyres. This means that the odometer reads true. (Almost) so this is a pretty accurate figure.
367 miles covered.
70.5 litres (15.52 Imp Gallons) used.
computer said 25.5 Mpg
actual 23.67 Mpg.
Ok so that’s a tank of premium fuel used.
And:
401 miles covered
71.8l used (15.8 gallons )
Computer said 25.4 mpg
Actual 25.4 mpg.
So on a full tank premium diesel gets you a theoretical extra 35 miles. Saving about 7 litres, £11.50 ish. So it more or less breaks even.

Nearly 5000 miles and when driven carefully, 27 mpg. Will try with a tank full of premium and hopefully, repeat your experience.

The wind makes a big difference. I drove to West Lothian today, head wind all the way there. 25mpg. Tail wind all the way home 29mpg.. same speed.
Aerodynamics of a breeze block.

Metric system is just as arbitrary as imperial, and in many ways worse.
Perhaps we should all cease living in the prehistoric ages and change to a system that is much more practical.

Ok noted. We have a good 110km chunk of highway that I use here for the North and South startin of nearly all my commuting. Looks like 25mpg can be expected and in metric still ok!

Am just going to ask you if you understand the metric system? Having a system based on multiples of ten, is dead easy, and everything interlinks. From memory, the USA did not go metric because it would have been too costly for their large manufacturing sector. Today that sector is diminished, maybe now is a good time.
