Australia - custom Deutsch Kit for INEOS Grenadier

The Deutsch Kit from Connector-Tech ALS, customised for the INEOS Grenadier, is up on their website, look here:
  1. Plugs with crimping tool;
  2. Plugs only here.
That was quick. Thank you Connector Tech ALS for the quick response to my feedback. Great to see some companies still have first class customer service.

I cannot see the items on the CTALS eBay store as yet.

The Kit gives you the parts you need without having to buy complete plugs, as some are already on the INEOS. It is for people who select the aux power option.

I have let my Dealer know and he said he would tell INEOS Australia.
Nice!

Nice one
I like the way they have included the picture of the panel and switches they relate to

Closed verse open ended pins and sockets

My open-ended Deutsch DTP pins and sockets arrived today. As I thought they are not as robust as the closed ended pins and sockets. They will be handy if you are remote because they can be crimped with a standard terminal crimper. You do not require a specialist Deutsch crimper. Once crimped they will also be more susceptible to oxidation than the closed barrel versions.

Pros and cons of open-ended pins/sockets
Pros
  1. cheaper to buy;
  2. can use standard terminal crimper, no need to buy a Deutsch size 12 crimper.
Cons
  1. more susceptible to oxidation (more wire is exposed, look here);
  2. the crimp will not be as robust as a closed ended pins/sockets using a Deutsch size 12 crimper; and
  3. the pin and socket of the closed ended type fit better together than the open-ended type. The fit is smoother and the fit is marginally more secure for the closed ended type.
Gold plated pins/sockets
I noticed a comment on the Connector-Tech ALS website that stated for critical applications use the gold plated pins/sockets, but they are expensive and I cannot justify the price.

I would use the closed ended type DTP pins/sockets instead, crimped with a Deutsch size 12 crimper, for critical applications.

One suggestion, do not crimp the crimping tool’s handles all the way together. Crimping to 95% of the way gives a better result. The last 5% can deform the pin or socket. In a worse case scenario the crimper can pierce the pin/socket and expose the copper wire to oxidation. Otherwise happy crimping.

That looks comprehensive ~ is it all a single kit purchase?
No, I bought the crimper kit From Amazon and added an extra set of inserts for the closed version directly from the Rhino distributor. I bought the plugs from ebay in one kit

Thanks. I see your kit has the green wedgelocks rather than the orange ones. I have it in mind that the green ones give a higher sealing performance but now can't recall where I read it.

That particular Rhino Tools crimper also accommodates hex-shaped dyes for crimping comms antenna cables ...e.g for UHF etc. Good choice!
Indeed it can take many dies, which you can buy here.

For US readers the Wirefy range is made by the same OEM, based in Taiwan. Wirefy is also available on Amazon US.

Another good option for owners is the Connector-Tech ALS kits for INEOS owners, look here:
  1. Plugs with crimping tool; or
  2. Plugs only.
The CTALS supplied crimping tool only works with 12AWG pins/sockets used in the Deutsch DTP plugs. The Kit only supplies the plugs, pins and sockets you need (remembering some plugs are on the INEOS). It is the cheapest option and it gives the best crimps, because the supplied CTALS crimper does such a good job. They are also geniune Deutsch plugs, pins and sockets, not knock offs.

I have tested the CTALS and the Rhino Tools crimper and the CTALS crimper was better, because it is specialised. The Rhino Tool crimper is more flexible and it givers very good crimps (if you crimp to 95%).

You have a choice of the CTALS Kits or the other options described above, buy what best suits your needs.

Not sure what the knock offs brands do, but with the genuine Deutsch plugs, I noticed:
  1. DT size plugs use orange and green wedgelocks (a different colour for each side of the pair);
  2. DTM use orange wedgelocks only (different shape for each side of the pair but both are orange);
  3. DTP use orange wedgelocks only, but the orange DTP wedgelocks are much bigger than the DTM wedgelocks.
  4. There is also a less used DTK, but I do not know much about them, but the wire size and amp ratings mirror the DT plugs.

@AnD3rew Are they Deutsch DT or DTP plugs in your kit, or both? Some kits you give both.

Some of the male plugs in the centre section look like DT plugs, the compressed orange seal gives it away (the DTP do not have that style of seal), but there are plenty of plugs I cannot see properly which maybe the DTP ones. The INEOS roof area outlets uses DTP not DT plugs, but we do not know what the footwell power outlets use, at present.

The mixture of orange and green wedgelocks also suggests DT style plugs if they are genuine Deutsch plugs.

The white arrow is pointing to the compressed orange seal I talk about above.

Which it why it was posted to the Universal Parts List Forum. Finding it should be much easier, at least that was the thinking.
