Deutsch DTP plugs

@AnD3rew Are they Deutsch DT or DTP plugs in your kit, or both? Some kits you give both.

Some of the male plugs in the centre section look like DT plugs, the compressed orange seal gives it away (the DTP do not have that style of seal), but there are plenty of plugs I cannot see properly which maybe the DTP ones. The INEOS roof area outlets uses DTP not DT plugs, but we do not know what the footwell power outlets use, at present.

The mixture of orange and green wedgelocks also suggests DT style plugs if they are genuine Deutsch plugs.

The white arrow is pointing to the compressed orange seal I talk about above.

Well I will be annoyed if they are DT because I ordered DTP

I googled Deutsche Connectors near me and this came up 20 minutes drive from me

Do all those plugs in the middle tray have the compressed orange seal? If yes, they are all DT plugs. Plus DT plugs are the only ones which use a green and an orange wedgelock (but I cannot say if that applies to knock off brands, it does for genuine Deutsch plugs).

Only one side of the DT plug has the compressed orange seal, so the other side of the plug is irrelevant (those in the right side of the tray).

A DTP plug has no compressed orange seal on either side. It is the DTP plug that is rated to 25amps, not the DT (rating is 13 amps).

Better to find out know and fix it, then find out when you get the IG.

We know the roof uses DTP plugs, the footwell plug is still to be determined.

It is beginning to look like that.

It will be obvious after they find them, or they may just be a unicorn. 🦄 Never to be found in the production vehicle.

What is on the IG aux power roof outlets?
I have now had time to look closely at various pictures of the Deutsch DTP plugs on the IG (roof only), plus I have crimped a few Deutsch DTP plugs as well.

Looking at the picture below, the image shows Parts DTP04-2P and DTP06-2S with white seals in the end. The female sockets are matched with the DTP06-2S, the male pins are matched with the DTP04-2P.

This image, from the IG, shows a complete pair of Deutsch DTP plugs (probably no sockets in the DTP06-2S and maybe no wedgelock). I have added labels (which hopefully are all correct):

The white seals are easier to see in this image.
Dear Michael
Question from y side: From your comment, does it imply that the IG comes with both the DTP04-2P and DTP06-2S, being the male and female plug?
Thank you

Francois

If you have the aux power option chosen, there are 4 plugs on the roof comprising the DTP04-2P and the DTP06-2S (but no sockets on the DTP06-2S side). Not sure if there is a wedgelock on the DTP06-2S either. So I have a few spares of the sockets, pins/sockets and wedgelocks (each half has a different wedgelock).

I finally worked out what 2S means, two sockets for the that plug. The other is 2P, meaning two pins for the other side

Footwell outlets do not have any Deustch plugs (just cable ends/wire tails).

Can anyone in the U.K. recommend a well priced crimp tool for Deutsch DTP pins or does it work out cheaper to use the stamped and formed pins and a regular crimper. A lot of the closed terminal crimpers are are a few hundred quid each !

There are two types of closed Deutsch crimpers, the ones that can crimp various size pins and sockets – which are really expensive.

The other only works with a fixed size pin/socket. They work really well and are much cheaper. If you are only using DTP size pins/sockets get a fixed size crimper like this (size 12 for DTP plugs).

UK Motorsports shops may also have them, as they often use Deutsch plugs.

Closed barrel superior to open
I have tested open and closed barrel pins/sockets. The closed style are definitely superior.

@TheDocAUS.
Thousand thanks !!! This post on Deutsch plugs exemplifies exactly what I have been hoping the forum will provide in the future : accurate technical data, freely given with good will for the benefit of all.
Well done. I've been a bit overwhelmed to be honest at the myriad options for Deutsch connectors wondering how to make sense of it all before adding yet more specialised tools to the "must have" collection!!!
If we meet on the track somewhere I'll make sure the beer is cold!😇
Hope you're having a peaceful Easter.
I completely agree with you. This forum is the most helpful I have ever been involved with. An invaluable source for anyone seriously interested in the Grenadier. If it isn't here, it hasn't been thought of.
