The steering pump whine is officially a issue…

Its one of the little things our QM has.

Will address it once first maintenance comes up, will get back to this thread thereafter.

Have any of you guys had any luck with your dealer addressing the steering whine? Mine said it was "normal," which I know it's not.
I have tried 3 times? Each time they said it is just "normal for that pump". Meanwhile school children at the crosswalk run in fear at the scream of my vehicle.

My truck in the shop right now. Service department says Power steering pump needs to hit 90 decibels in order to replace it. Mine is in the mid 80s. They know it’s not normal, they just have to say it is..

Very interesting....

Regarding UN-ECE R51 which applies in 56 states of this world (Europe, Australia, Japan, to name a few) these are the maximum db levels for different vehicles. Regarding 6.2.2.2.2 +2 db are still fine...but the hightest level is 80 db.
I would ask Ineos how a 85 or 88 db level steering pump still fullfills this regulation? The manufacturer must ensure that all cars are following the regulations, see 8) of UN-ECE R51.

I’ll attach this to my email correspondence I have going with them.

Great question, I’ll ask this morning.
You also have procedure/methodology... 90db at what distance? open or closed hood? If I put a install a genset, the housing has a db rating for 23ft, and my calculations at the property line may seem straight forward, but... summer to winter air density, surrounding vegetation and structure reflection etc, affects things. prolonged exposure at 85db can cause hearing damage. If you have a production facility, you have to enforce hearing safety. All of which makes me think Ineos is just making this shit up and pulling a number out of their ass they know you wont top. 90db WHERE??

Agreed. I’ll dive deeper today with the service department. I honestly don’t think they know either or are even testing. It just feels like a total scam.
Not to mention the clunk I feel when the truck downshifts rapidly to a stop, they told me that’s normal again..HVAC blowing randomly in passenger footwell, normal by design.
They are replacing two front shocks that made a lot of noise when you drove over anything that wasn’t flat.
