The whole forum breathes a collective sigh of relief , and raises a glass to your swinging over to the optimistic side! Conclusion: very confident in the car to drive it on motorways and normal roads. I am delighted.
In any manual vehicle with cruise control if you hit the brake or the clutch cruise control turns off.Yesterday I drove for the first time on the motorway. Very nice driving, no problems, but I struggled a little bit with the cruise control (learning phase). I really enjoyed it!
I also tried to “engine brake” (is that the right word?) instead of the “foot break”, by going to manual mode.
There I had a little surprise, and it lasted some testing before knowing what happened: “cruise control should be off!”
In my previous car (Suzuki Grand Vitara), as soon as I switched gears (manual gearbox), cruise control switched off.
Here, when I go from automatic gear shift to manual AND switch to a lower gear, cruise control stays on, and the car wants to go back to the speed that was set without changing gear of course (manual mode), therefore accelerating instead of braking.
Is that “normal BMW behavior” or is it “INEOS software” behavior? Perhaps somebody who knows the BMW can answer?
I struggle also a little bit with the info screen. Going back from the music player on my phone to radio is still a small mystery for me (but I didn’t search thoroughly). I use AIMP, a Russian music player, and it works very well on Android and car screen! Sound is OK for me.
It is raining now, and before posting my message, I went to my car to see if there was again water infiltration in the car at the passenger (right) side: nothing! But the car is slightly inclined in the other direction compared to two days ago! And now it seems I have some water at the other (driver) side, but it could be because of opening the door and entering with wet feet. Will have to check.

Next week, on Thursday, I’ll leave Belgium to visit my youngest son, wife and grand-daughter in Hungary. Probably two or three days normal drive (German motorways and Czech or Austrian and Hungarian normal roads). I’ll stay 3 days at their place, and I pretend to drive back in about one week without any motorways, hoping to find some nice forest or other hard tracks.
I could as well tap the cruise control button before changing gear.In any manual vehicle with cruise control if you hit the brake or the clutch cruise control turns off. YES
In all automatics hitting the brake turns it off. YES
Just get used to tapping the brake before changing gear. HMMMM?
no different to you pushing the clutch before changing gear
What is <cruise control>? None of my 8 cars have it.In any manual vehicle with cruise control
It is something like a computer, a mobile phone, WhatsApp, Youtube, a bank card ... too difficult to explain to you, go back to school ...Where are you living? Tasmania ... ooh yes I seeWhat is <cruise control>? None of my 8 cars have it.
I find it hard to believe your EV Volvo doesn't have itWhat is <cruise control>? None of my 8 cars have it.
Never had cruised control, never had airbags or abs, my vehicles have lacked safety and my luxuries have only been electric windows, Mirrors and air-conditioning. The grenadier will be a big step up for me. Glad it has no radar cruise, autonomous braking, blind spot, lane keep all that stuff. I enjoy driving not being driven. But I feel I need some safety now with majority of other road users lacking concentration and relying on cars driving them. What is <cruise control>? None of my 8 cars have it.
@Tazzieman is totally against modern technology. It is something like a computer, a mobile phone, WhatsApp, Youtube, a bank card ... too difficult to explain to you, go back to school ...Where are you living? Tasmania ... ooh yes I see
We have a backup car. Left on trickle charge . Starts 1st time every time . It's only audible warning device is the HORN !I just have the one car - it had better be reliable!
I bet he’s sat on a bicycle powered generator as he posts and reads on this forum@Tazzieman is totally against modern technology.
As he explains often on a global internet forum group...
I am going to call bullshit on that one.
There are a buttload of people who want the Grenadier to go back to analogue simplicity and are changing up from their old Defenders.I bet he’s sat on a bicycle powered generator as he posts and reads on this forum
You’ve lost me with that replyThere are a buttload of people who want the Grenadier to go back to analogue simplicity and are changing up from their old Defenders.
The Grenadier you want is your old Defender.
Keep it.
Move on.
I fear @DaveB thinks I and you (@Logsplitter ) where rude concerning @TazziemanThere are a buttload of people who want the Grenadier to go back to analogue simplicity and are changing up from their old Defenders.

I think Dave is pointing to the fact that if you want progress, you have to move forward. An analogue Grenadier would be an old Defender. You’ve lost me with that reply
Yes I also enjoy his commentsI fear @DaveB thinks I and you (@Logsplitter ) where rude concerning @Tazzieman
This wasn't my intention, it was joking, nothing more @DaveB
I appreciate a lot the comment's and jokes and black humor of @Tazzieman and somehow understand perfectly his reluctance to technology.
