I am confident there will be a fix and will take delivery. If no fix comes, there's off-road mode for local roads, and the option to tear out the clicker. Not too worried as I left my lead foot behind when we brought our kids home from the hospital.

I am taking an optimistic view, that Ineos can find a software solution that complies with any required legislation but allows for quick access to settings and keeps the driving experience a good one.

Understandable.
My understanding is that each country / block of nations / etc create the standards for the vehicles imported. What goes for the EU would not necessarily mean it would be put on NA vehicles. That said there are numerous "nanny" warnings coming to US vehicles as that have been deemed "best" for the masses - disagree. If people driving would be more attentive to driving and less attentive to phones, eating, etc these annoyances would not be created. It amazes me that we have to have all these safety contraptions on cars to "prevent" crashes but the simplicity of requiring all turning lights to be amber and in a uniform location for driver awareness has never been implemented.
Seems like we may be able to thank the autonomous cars for some of these ....
https://www.deviceauthority.com/blo...head-of-2024s-new-vehicle-safety-regulations/
Cars are being made more complicated with these devices - how many accidents have been caused by someone trying to change something annoying them by focusing on a screen, taking their eyes off the road ending up in an accident. And peoples thinking that with all these devices to prevent crashes that their cars are "self driving" which they are not!! Put down the phone and pay attention to driving. After all, you are operating something that has the potential to kill someone.
Hey, look, the US is set up for automobile use. Hardly any public transit, so we have lax laws that gives everyone the right to drive, easy access. I'm for these nannies because not everyone is a good driver, but they need to drive to get to work or buy groceries. Heck, even my elderly parents still drive, it will be great when self driving cars arrive as it'll lessen the burden on them. And me!

I'm amazed by the number of people threatening to cut bait over a speeding alert, and not total failure to deliver on a comprehensive service network.

One of these can be fixed with software and is likely just an oversight....

Same in Australia, My dad was a Mr Magoo even when he was young, he recently gave his licence up, now he is just a nuisance on his gofer ( motorised wheel chair ), and there are many more Mr and Mrs / Ms / They / Them Magoo's ( I had to include the current They and Them texting generation ) out there.
Some people are suited to be just bus and train people, and they definitely need self driven cars.

I am a fan and one of the first in the USA to write the big check fo the IG. It is great. I am a fan. The point of my bringing this to everyone's attention, is so it will be addressed sooner rather than later. This is not a simple button push is like 'Auto Start / Stop.' Until you experience it, it's hard to imagine. Hear me know, believe me later.

First, I'm still going through with my purchase.

At present, a constant clicking when traveling over the speed limit, that you can turn off 10 menus deep.
But, what's around the corner?

Not able to turn it off?
A loud siren the whole time you are above the speed limit?
Reporting your speed to the authorities for punishment?
A governor preventing any vehicle from exceeding the speed limit?

Same with drowsy/impaired driving detection, which is MANDATED for all 2026+ vehicles sold in US.
That law requires vehicles to prevent drowsy or impaired drivers from continuing to operate the vehicle.
But, what's next? Reporting to authorities how many times a driver attempted to operate a vehicle while impaired?
Reporting this information to insurance?

Things will not get better.
If you want a new car and a modicum of autonomy, buy now!!!

If you think INEOS will do anything to degrade the nanny systems in our vehicles; I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.
But, I'll trust to the aftermarket to find a solution.
If they can't, I'll find my own, if it means unplugging every speaker in the entire vehicle and installing a bluetooth speaker.

I hope that's not the case since they sourced so many of the things from places like BMW! I followed the RoW launch. Most of the issues were software related and they fixed them! As mentioned, I'm a FAN!

You mentioned saving turning it off as a favorite, how many menus do you have to go thru now?

A governor preventing any vehicle from exceeding the speed limit?

Some of us here are old enough to remember when vehicles had a governor (US spec Ford Escort, circa 1988). Speedometer went up to 85 only. Cinquecento would pass me on the autostrada like I was standing still.

The service network is exactly what has been announced and talked about from Ineos Automotive US since the start of the year... Actually, there's one more dealer than initially expected

So, start the vehicle, wait until it boots ) maybe 10 seconds), Push Favouites (sometimes twice), tap on screen for Over Speed, back to carplay, etc. Not in the car buy maybe 5. Not optimal but not as bad.

For those who complain about the EU rules coming into products targeted for US markets know this: there are powerful forces trying to make these standards global and apply to here too.

You can see it in the the infrastructure bill aka build back better, it requires nhtsa to build a roadmap for introducing new safety technologies but it's really regulatory air cover for introducing global harmonization for passenger vehicles.

If you want to be busy for a while read the federal register. DOT under nhtsa has a request for comment out on the 10 year safety roadmap. It outlines the goals they are seeking for the next decade. Current issues with the EV push has put some of that on back burner and I hear that nhtsa has no director in position in the technical office at the moment.

We will see what happens, especially if there is a change in the administration in the next election cycle. I don't think they have enough time for rule making in the current cycle.

ps. This is not my specialty but my close friend lives in the government policy world and I pick up a thing or two from our discussion.

This sounds like they do not have custom software for NA? Are they just shipping the trucks worldwide with EU software?
That’s what I took it to mean. Understandable on the one hand, but not really doable in the real world. The only advantage I see to global firmware is that hopefully we’ll get a tool to hack it. Eventually you will get a feature sets that are not complimentary and actual antagonistic to each other based on regulatory scheme.

I’ve been making noise, reaching out to IG and encouraging others to do the same because it is something that can hopefully be easily and quickly addressed and rectified. I totally agree with you on the service centers. My wife is being smart in trying to kill the IG, instead attacking it on all of its problems, she just keeps asking about them and if they are fixed yet. The strikes keep on piling up, and she knows that I’m a realist and enough of them will kill it.

The IG started out as my ‘forever’ car and now it is rapidly becoming my ‘never’ car.
