Did we just become best friends!!

If you ever venture through Dallas give me a shout.
Ha, I do have family near Longview and an old Army battle buddy near Plano, so not far and planning on a trip to visit both next summer. So it’s possible…..🤝

If you really want good steak, learn to cook it yourself! Perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned.
It is far easier than making successful design changes to any automobile…
That steak on the grill looks great. I’m a big fan. But the better steakhouses have ovens that cook at / above 1200 degrees Fahrenheit.
I’m an even bigger fan of those.

Grenadier Sewell is of course in Plano. And I live at basically the farthest point in north dallas you can be before it becomes Plano. So certainly let me know.

Ahh yes the ole salamander grilled steak. I agree they are very hard to beat. The Maillard effect is real and really adds flavor.

Could not agree more. I don’t know what all the fuss is about regarding the steering. But there is definitely fuss. I enjoy the tactile, point and shoot feel of the steering. My vehicle does not wander. This is definitely a matter of personal choice and certainly not a design flaw. But I’m as guilty as anyone for coveting parts that say “Fox” or “King” on them…
Facts I think the steering is fine, I still want the matching stabilizer!

Regardless, accepting the poor steering of the IG is roughly the same as saying smoking cigarettes or the like is an acquired taste. The IG objectively drives better on the highway with an aftermarket steering stabilizer. Just because you got used to it in stock form doesn’t make it acceptable by traditional vehicle handling standards.

Nice projection of your opinion to all other owners. Looks like you should just move on and sell your Grenadier if it causes you this much angst.

Admittedly I didn’t read your whole post…it was long.

But I have put maybe 4-5k miles on my truck in basically the configuration as yours. It’s miserable to drive cross country. And as you mentioned, emergency braking or maneuvering is extremely dangerous. This is due to a couple things, but the easiest of them all to fix is the shocks. Go for the Kings or the new Konis. This will largely fix your concerns without serious modification. The stock shocks are very lightly valved. My truck is a relative joy to drive now with Kings. Honestly it feels about like any other modern SUV now for the most part.

One difficult to solve issue is the short rear axle links. Due to their length and the lift you end up with a decent amount of rear steer because the shocks are so lightly valved. So either you lengthen the link arms a lot or use shock valving to control the axle a bit more. Shocks are cheap in comparison to hacking things up to install longer links.

This gives me pause about buying one. “Miserable to drive cross country?”

I'd say my experience was the exact opposite to misery... Multiple days with 15+ hours behind the wheel and feeling refreshed after each one

edit: with that being said, it won't drive like anything in your signature, so that's important to realize

I just drove from Denver, Colorado to Richmond, Virginia. Then a week later, I turned around. For those who don't know, that's about 1600 miles each way. I thought some of this information might be helpful for someone.

Relevant Modifications
Fox non-adjustable steering stabilizer
Eibach 2.5in leveling springs
Falken Wildpeak A/T4W LT285/75R17/10
Leitner Designs 3/4 roof rack (just Maxtrax and a hi-lift jack up there)
Wolfbox G900 rear view camera
Suma Performance side mirrors

Seating Position
One concern I have had about this car is the only place to set an arm is in the window sill. It's great around town, but it doesn't allow for much control, and it's not good for your arm/shoulder for a long drive. We found that we could shove pillows on either side of the driver's seat, and it made all the difference in the world. It was comfortable, and I had much better control on the highway. My biggest takeaway from this drive is that these seats need armrests. Honestly, my back/neck was my biggest worry before setting out on this trip, and the pillows as armrests made it delightful.

Steering/Handling
If not for the steering damper, I'd have gotten rid of this car a long time ago. The damper did a great job. However, it doesn't do much for the play in the wheel, and any emergency handling is going to be a very bad day. I am considering King shocks to see if that might help it feel more stable at speed. I am also considering the King or adjustable Fox steering dampers. The steering play is just insane. But I'm also considering a Land Cruiser, so it could go either way.

Mirrors
These work brilliantly together. I felt a lot more confident with these than the "why would you need to see anything behind you?" design philosophy of the stock mirrors. It took just a couple hours to adjust to the Wolf camera.

Fuel Economy
This is really the reason I am posting this. I didn't trust the car to do the math. I kept track of miles and gallons. In Colorado and Kansas I got 91 octane, and east of there I got 93.

There are several factors related to fuel economy. Obviously the cross sectional area of the vehicle makes a big difference, and the lift and roof rack contribute to that. Then there is whether it has to rev higher than it would prefer because of running out of gears. Rolling resistance matters, and certainly there are other tires that would do better. I had mine to about 38/39psi. In Colorado and Kansas the altitude will help because of less air density. Given the mods I have, I did not expect much, but I was hoping for better. I typically drove 10mph over the speed limit. I am not interested in comments about that unless you have driven across Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, or the like yourself (honestly, I'm not interested either way). That makes it 85mph for most of eastern Colorado, Kansas, and western Missouri. Other states had speed limits of 65-70mph. Note that I also checked my speed with GPS, and I needed to add about 1.5% (so car reports 83, I'm going 85). The pressure drag is proportional to the square of the speed, so going fast can quickly get out of hand, but even in West Virginia where the roads are narrow, windy, and under construction (i.e. slow), I didn't see any good results (it is also a lot of up and down, though).

I started by comparing reported miles to mile markers over 50 miles. I determined I needed to add 6.2% to the car's miles for accuracy. So with all of that corrected...
  • Total average: 11.96 mpg
  • Worst tank: 9.32 mpg
  • Best tank: 14.37 mpg
Of course the worst and best tanks can be affected by a gas tank that clicked off at a different level, but the overall average is pretty solid. It looks like mostly 11-12 in the west and 13-14 in the east.

Before you jump in with "The Grenadier wasn't built for this! What did you expect?" or something of the sort, I am aware. I am reporting the information in case it matters to someone. It's a new car, and data is important. I'm not all that keen on global warming either.

Unfortunately, I can't give exact numbers here, but every time I checked the vehicle's calculation of the mpg, it was significantly higher. I might make it a point to compare the real with the car calculation more precisely later on.

That's all I have. Thanks for you time. Feel free to move this to a different forum if it should be somewhere else.
Man the fuel and just how uncomfortable this car is and then to get it how you want it your basically approaching 100k easily and man a raptor r starts to look so doable to me. Totally different vehicles completely but damn Ineos missed on some big stuff. Why not put a v8 and power it correctly?? It’ll get better mpg likely.

Great post and I read it all in like 73 seconds. Well said.
My center console works better than an arm rest IMO.

You mean to tell me a car manufacturer didn’t provide accurate fuel economy statements. Also an almost 6k pound vehicle that is shaped like a huge brick has poor fuel economy? 🤷‍♂️

Grenadier $85k, Raptor R $115k plus usually a $5k to $20k dealership mark up and why I passed on mine. I have great relationships with several dealerships, well thought I did. Been on waiting list for the Raptor R (btw you can’t compare vehicles that one you can walk onto a lot today and buy right now vs the other that is so rare they have a waiting list to buy it & if a dealership gets one it’s ONE truck per year), and got the call this year to say my Raptor R was ready to buy, just have to add a $20k (YES $20k) mark up over MSRP! I passed even though I could afford it (yes little subtle brag) but I never pay over MSRP. Also that Ford dealership is now dead to me.

Anyone who has bought one of these I am pretty sure did their research and knew the issues and what they were getting in to. If not that’s on them. So I always get confused when some then start complaining about these known issues after taking possession.

I am on the other side of the coin. I have multiple vehicles including two Grenadiers and ever since buying the Grenny’s that’s all I drive now (alternating between the two). So much so I have now put two of my vehicles up for sale via consignment company & thinking of doing same for another. I LOVE THESE GRENNY’s!!!!! Sorry some have issues or not happy and they hate when someone says this, but it’s true…..if you’re not happy with any vehicle you own trade it in or sale it and find something that makes you happy. Don’t keep or drive something you have to complain about or you will be miserable….👍 ✌️

This was my experience between 50 and 60 miles an hour I get stellar gas mileage, presently 17.9 as well and between 45-50 (during break in) it was 18.6 but I spend half my time in a country whose speed limit is between 50 and 56 mph.

My next modification is going to be the TDI tuner that claims it can boost mpg by 20% on the Grenadier in eco mode, That should be here sometime early next week and I will do a review of it after I get some time with I saw 19.8 mpg today on my 34 mile test loop on a combination of setting 2 / 1 on the TDI tuner.

I ran another loop today, 34 miles of combined driving and saw 19.8 mpg combined on the TDI tuner on settings 1 and 2. It is close enough to 20 mpg to call it a win. My next run will be for maximum mpg on setting #1.

I agree with what you’re saying but assuming you can buy both for sticker it’s definitely something to consider. I had a 2024 R with 180 miles on it at riverside auto auction this past Thursday. High bid was 117k. Seller would have let it go at 120k. Prices are coming down on all vehicles and the whole markup thing is now mostly gone from everything. FINALLY! Thanks for your great write up. Love the detail and appreciate it.
