Is freon a consumable???

My A/C was not blowing as cold as it was all last summer, so I swung by the Nashville dealer while I was in town for other reasons. (I purchased in Atlanta)
They confirmed the refrigerant was low and topped it up.
They are saying that since I've owned it for more than 1 year, it is not covered by warranty.
Sounds wrong to me?

PS: The computers were down when I left, so they said they would call later with the invoice. I haven't paid it yet.

Technically yes it is, the gas and system will break down over time..... However I'm shocked that they wouldn't consider it warranty work since it was not blowing as cold within such short time. I just got mine back from the dealer and asked them to look at the AC system since it seems to be very common issue here on the forum. They found it overfilled and corrected it all for warranty. I however have not owned mine for a year but still find that to be picky of them and kinda BS. It is a very very small amount that goes into these systems so with the recovery tools they aren't out very much anything other than labor time. But as we all know some dealers are great some are so so and some just suck.... lol

Six, seven years from new - I can see losing that much gas. One year? You probably have a leak somewhere. I got my truck in Feb of last year so the AC seemed fine, since it was winter. Once the temps got hot the ac blew almost at room temperature. So I took to dealer in May, they said it was low and topped it up; it blew cold but faded as the summer went on. When I was in for service a few months later I explained and asked them to run a pressure test and they found a leak. I don't recall what was replaced but they did the job, refilled the freon, and it's good to go.

It is a consumable, but certainly not after such a short timescale. It will very slowly breakdown but the usual reason for loss of refrigerant is a leak or passing dried rubber seals from lack of use. The wife's car is coming up for 8 years old and is still on the original manufacturer's refrigerant fill. You have a leak or wasn't filled correctly.

Refrigerant itself is not normally covered under vehicle warranties, even if a leak has developed.
Although many wouldn't charge to avoid the inevitable argument.
BTW, Freon was banned in the mid 90s in cars.

It is a habit of the residents of the American South to use brand names to encompass all items in a category.
All tissues are Kleenex.
All flavored gelatin deserts are Jello.
All soft drinks are Coke...

And (around here) all refrigerants are Freon.

Thanks to all for the replies. Nashville is a new dealer only open a few months.
Likely used to dealing with the Nissan brand and not INEOS.

Is there even a 1 year warranty period?
I thought 5 yrs mechanical
2 yrs parts
3 yrs paint/accessories
5 yrs emissions
12 yrs perforation

I never knew Freon was a brand name. I guess every is a school day.

Ineos is using 1234yf a HFO refrigerant in AU not sure if other countries are using the older 134A refrigerant. A good clean sytem with no leaks should go 5 to 10 years no problem. I have seen unopened systems do well over 15 years with no issues.

UK and EU are 1234yf as well. I thought 134A was now being phased out in new cars.

USA Grenadiers are 1234yf as well.
I don't know the regs, but my 2021 Land Cruiser is also 1234yf.

Europe has phased out R134A and I am sure the US phased it out for new cars. In AU only the euro cars seem to have 1234yf and R134A is still used in new cars. R134A in Australia is restricted and service people need to be licensed to repair systems.
