just got the email about ineos expeditions.

they are expensive, about $2,000 USD per day. Not completely out of touch expensive, but expensive.
The one i'm interested is in Namibia, but that one is over the top expensive at $4,500 per day.
And you have to be two per vehicle so with a partner its basically $9k per day.

Not a tiny amount, basically i can buy a new grenadier for the same money as 8 days in namibia for me and my wife.
And that excludes airfare, i figure probably another $10k in airfare for 2 from california west coast. Spendy... :)

At the risk of sounding a bit cynical... Last time when i signed up i never heard back from them, when i inquired 3 weeks before departure i was told i would be updated "in due time".
Never heard a beep from them.
I wonder what is going to be different this time around.

Having said that i like the basic premise. Go to africa and experience these vehicles the way they where meant to be used. Follow the trail that Ratcliffe laid out with one of the first grenadiers. That does appeal to me. quite a lot. I did south adrica, mocambique, zambia, zimbabwe and namibia in a defender 25 years ago. Would love to do it again.

That's completely out of line. It just shows what kind of clientele they would like to have. I'll be honest: I think it's far too expensive. I could pay it, but not often. At some point I'd have to do without something else.

And if I get stupid looks in a lounge in the evening because I don't order a Champagne Krug Vintage Brut 1988, I'd also have to realize that I'm in the wrong company.

No thanks. I don't need that.

That's significantly more than the equivalent LR experiences in Africa last I checked.

It's kind of interesting how the IG is billed as 'Defender' heritage, but is priced way way out of all markets that the old defender served. This is another example of what Ineos Auto wants to be, a niche luxury brand.

They need to be a niche vehicle producer otherwise they won't be allowed to sell the Grenadier soon in many markets and under current rules would receive heavy fines for the ones they are selling if the volume was higher. If they had started to build the Fusilier there build volume would be higher and then the Grenadier would be penalised. In the UK for this year, manufacturers have to sell 22% electric vehicles or every one vehicle over there is a £15000 fine. Low volume manufacturers avoid these fines and this is where INEOS is.
In the UK and Europe the lifespan in current form is very limited unless exemptions can be negotiated with the various governments. Thankfully BMW have gone back on their 100% electric agenda and will continue to produce fuel powered vehicles for the rest of the world, this will continue the production of engines for our Grenadiers.

What an exciting future we have to look forward to in European countries, (European states of China)

I'm not disputing any of that (except the last sentence, it reminds me of the anti-Japan hysteria in the 80s/90s), I'm only pointing out the disparity between the marketing of 'defender heritage' and the reality of how Ineos is positioned.

It's the reality of the last decade when he (Jim) envisioned it to the reality of this decade when the west seems to be desperate to shoot itself in the foot rather than develop their own technology. I agree that was the fear with the Japanese imports but the vast cheap labour and subsidy of the Chinese state dwarfs anything the Japanese did and due to the rush to be carbon neutral is handing jobs on a plate to China. You only have to look at UK steel industry in the last 5 years, let alone what self imposed damage is being done to the German auto industry. The 80's was a gradual choice and competition, this is forced and rapid.
