GrenX Ineos Grenadier 68L Auxiliary Fuel Sub Tank Brown Davis

Hi Denis. Great job. I have just ordered the BD tank and fitting. I thought of fitting myself but thought the exhaust had to be welded in situ to complete the job. I could only find the LRA tank instructions and indicate fully welded. Fitting charge was quoted at $870. Will be great to see some progress pics and finished job. I will instruct them to use a supplied Deutsch DTP plug on the driver side footwell instead of the power source as described in the BD instructions. Just got to split the power source as already run extra USB chargers from DS footwell.

Good Luck

Terry
Hi Terry
The BD "welding" is just a recommendation for a couple of tack welds to hold the extension in place...there is really no need to weld the exhaust if the supplied clamp is set close to the edge and firmly secured. I'm also hesitant about welding in close quarters plus need to make sure vehicle is really "asleep" prior to disconnecting battery cables so that the vehicle is fully isolated
My last hurdle is "fighting the beast " to re-install the composite wheel well cover. Damned if I can wriggle/rearrange the replacement filler tube sufficiently to allow the cover into place. The T -Junction is as close to the bend in the main tank L hose inlet as possible (after it was trimmed) and the filler tube is the later model with the shortened 35mm section post final bend.... what else is there🤔
I note elsewhere one of our hardy DIY team has resorted to reshaping the wheel well cover with a hot air gun to accommodate filler tube bulge. I'm contemplating that at the moment 🤬. 20250130_140244.jpg
So near yet so far!!
The fitting fee quoted is probably very reasonable. A hoist would be a luxury 😆.
I guess there's a few reasons I chose the DIY route mentioned elsewhere... problem solving, crawling around the floor under a vehicle, beats boredom when one is closer to 80 than 70!!😂😂

I just finished installing it... What a ride. This is by no means plug and play. BMW specialists had a very hard time with this so called kit. "Pure junk", "low cost", "piece of s#it" etc... I am used to Australian standards, so I was not surprised. Bolts are unusable, washers are a joke, instructions are awful, wiring is off the shelf. But this is common to all Australian accessories, I am yet to find a vendor who understands bolt grades, washer physics and automotive grade FLRY wires. Also, it seems there is zero awareness of the notion of iterations in product design.
Friendly advice: DO NOT CUT the exhaust where the manual says. Instead, measure ten times and cut once. My exhaust was cut according to the manual, and it ended 3cm short of where is whould be in order to have enough clearance from the stabilizer bar. Nope, they did NOT test the fitment at full flex, and now I have a big dent in their crap pipe extension.
I have yet to fit the wheel plastic arch. It seems it will need extensive and creative ways of deforming and moulding.

@alexandruast I feel your pain! I changed out several bolts for higher grade versions.
I've spent hours trying to position the filler pipe to accommodate the liner... they just won't fit together without the wheel arch liner being re-moulded to change its contour!!
GrenX advertising on YouTube doesn't indicate whether they have actual experience of fitting the Brown Davis tank (which they sell under their brand).. and resolved the issue with the wheel arch liner.
I've contacted Brown Davis re. the problems with the wheel arch liner... I'll report back.

Hi Denis,
Feel your pain. I will supply the power for the installers for my setup through the front DS aux power. i already have a Deutsch plug so i will double off that to give waterproof connections. As for bolts and fixings it appears that cheapest is best. Look forward to the BD reply

Another issue, the vapor lines coming together in the T piece supplied. The plastic pipe going into the main fuel tank, which requires cutting and fitting into the tee, is consistently larger in diameter than the tee, the supplied clamp wont seal and there will be leaks if you fill the tanks to the brim. Brown Davis strikes again...

One more thing. After fitting everything and filling up the tanks, because of the overhang weight, the distance to bump stops is 3cm, before adding anything else in the car. No people, no gear, no tent, on level ground. A lift kit is not only recommended. A lift kit or GVM upgrade IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.
