A friend had an independent service workshop for 25 yrs until he recently retired. Had 3 bays, 4 reliable mechanics and a loyal clientele. His total annual diagnostic subscription fees for several marques (essential for logbook servicing) were in excess of A$25,000. On top of that add two Bosch diagnostic tools plus sundry assorted connection leads (another $10k) . Then there were various Govt levies, EPA etc, insurances, business operating licences, hoist certification.... the list goes on. All in all his overheads were close to $1000 a day before he took account of wages. No wonder the hourly rates are up!!
He was servicing several marquee brands - and likely charging a handsome fee for all. I bet he was making a killing. Never in my life known a 'poor' mechanics shop. Ex bro in law ran 2x mech shops and was basically sleeping on pillows full of money. Another mate ran a BWM mech shop until selling up, made enough money to retire by 45 effectively. I chose wrong career path!

The best financial opporturtunies are always those where someone is making a distressed purchase. (for those not familiar with the term, it is where somebody is in a position where they have to buy your product or service. everything from an emergency plumber to a red light on your dashboard)

Sounds like trying to organise an emergency tradesman in Australia... you said it was $300 for the call out and another $190/hr when you get here...

3pm... here they turn phones off at 1pm.

SERIOUS NOTE: I have been informed the AC condensate issue cannot be resolved at local dealer - INEOS issue that has no warrantable repair advice as yet...
Also told AC hot vs cold air flows is also not fixable via INEOS warrantable repair strategy and is likely going to be a software fix...
I have very little confidence in either issue being resolved as they are evident from day one owners calling in the issues.
The TPMS, ESC, TSC, ABCDEFG errors messages (intermittent on my vehicle) are also not yet resolved - likely a further software issue yet to be patched for OZ vehicles.

Not to argue with your source, but my vehicle spent a few days at my agent last week for some warranty work including rectification of the AC condensate leak in the left side footwell. About a 5 man hour job to pull the whole dash and HVAC unit out, address the issue and reassemble. My vehicle was the 5th they have done so they have had plenty of practice. I don't think they would be still be doing this under warranty if the fix from IA wasn't working. We're having a heatwave in SE Queensland (38c, 100f) and my AC is working like a charm with no leaks.

They also replaced the complete HVAC unit on another customer vehicle recently as a warranty action by IA. I'm not aware of the circumstances for that replacement.

My AC is completely broken (no change between on and off) and I get a hissing sound from under the dash when its turned on. Local dealer can't even look at it for another month so I'm hoping they can sort it out on the day.

My AC blows cold air - always - even on hot setting! However, was you dash removal and condensate fix done for free, in a non-service (paid) booking or was it completed whilst they did a paid service? I am dubious with information being provided to me lately. Did your dealer also confirm the repair was fully warranted by IA, as in, if you get issues in the future it will be resolved for free under warranty once more?

It was a warranty visit,. All work was at no cost to me and endorsed by IA.

Finally managed to get my Grenadier booked in for 30,000 km service.
Tried 3 dealers and finally one on Sunshine Coast can fit me in this year.
They want the vehicle for 3 days as there are also 7 "campaigns" to do on it.
So 16th - 18th December it is in.
They are giving me a loan Grenadier to use and it is a 2.5 hour drive each way.
Strangely they couldn't quote me a cost as the guy who is able to login is on leave until Wednesday.

Ignition in Brisbane quoted me $1,177.08 but they were about $300 more expensive than everyone else last time.
SLRV on the Gold Coast told me they could sell me the genuine parts and I could get someone local to do the service.
I will look at this next time

7 campaigns and three days - WTF??
I had mine serviced a couple of weeks ago. In and out in a day and I’m guessing they didn’t work on it more than a few hours.
I asked about campaigns etc - all good and up to date.

I will get the full list but it surprised me they said software update as I already had a software update earlier this year.
Cable relocation and sheath to avoid the rubbing issue
Steering box fluid change
Cross member adjustment
EGR module coupler
Wiring to steering pump, could be same as other one above.

I have noticed that the sunshine coast dealer tends to take their time on service work.
Last time they told me they wanted to keep it for a second day as they hadn't finished and I told them I wasn't surprised.
Told them I had a tracker on the vehicle and it wasn't touched or started for the first 4 hours.

They may not be taking their time on service work. A simple job like a software update glitching or slow internet connection during a software update or incorrectly packaged parts can incapacitate a vehicle, hold up a hoist or repair bay for hours. Get the same job on a number of vehicles that day or and it destroys the whole workshop schedule.

First scheduled service (15,000 / 12mth) last week, $950inc GST @ Ineos Brighton (prior visit to dealer was approx 4mths ago for multiple service campaigns including the major software update).

Items followed up at my request:
- Recalibrated TPMS & reset tyre pressures (I was getting over pressure warnings when driving on freeways)
- Re-tensioned heat shields to minimise rattles/resonance
- HVAC air bleed and manual air release from AUX cooling pumps, my HVAC was working but taking about 10mins to kick in (gurgling behind dash indicated air in system)

Items followed up by them:
- Battery combiner check torque
- Aux battery cap install / install caps and stickers as required
- FRS 1.4 software update

They had it two days which sucked a little bit but it has come back working perfectly. HVAC seems to be kicking in quickly and quietly, no rattles or strange noises, and no warning lights or bings or bongs. Also not just washed but fully detailed inside & out (my only gripe is over zealous use of tyre shine on the spare, now I get greasy hands if I use it to close the rear door).

They are also doing the battery update on mine.
At least they are giving me a Grenadier as a loan car.
They have previously given me a Mazda CX60 and a CX9 which were both horrible to drive and live with.

I got a loan Siemens Nexas train that night, but that was provided by the State Government and not the dealer.

Ok and here’s the hottest tip for young players.

Buy this for about $120 on special before your service and hand it to your dealer.
You’ll have yourself nearly $250-300 on your service cost.

I think this depends on the dealership and Service Manager. I used to supply all filters and engine oil for regular services on my JGC and did this for some years without a problem. The service Manager was happy to charge labour costs. Then along came a new Service Manager who reacted with "Oh really" when I told him that al;l the service materials were in the back. Without saying as much he made it quite clear that he was not agreeable to such an arrangement. I never went back to them.
