Fusilier On Hold???

By 2035 we will be at war against China and there will be more important things to worry about.

Isn't that also when India decides to take Tibet?

Ten years is a long time technologically speaking and anything could happen. If battery and solar panel development progress fast enough we can have an electric Grenadier (or equivalent) and not a ho-hum electric SUV. Power to weight ratios are always improving regardless of the engine type so I don't think I'm being overly optimistic.

Australia is just too big a country with large distances between towns

It could all be paved by then, Dave. ;)
That is the funniest thing I have heard
I live near a large rural city and below are some examples of the roads I drive on daily that are only partially sealed or sealed top only one vehicle width.
Drive 500 kms or 1,000kms west of here and only the absolute major roads are sealed.

As a certain Italian said the other day,

“I AM THE WAY INTO THE CITY OF WOE.
I AM THE WAY TO A FORSAKEN PEOPLE.
I AM THE WAY INTO ETERNAL SORROW.
SACRED JUSTICE MOVED MY ARCHITECT.
I WAS RAISED HERE BY DIVINE OMNIPOTENCE,
PRIMORDIAL LOVE AND ULTIMATE INTELLECT.
ONLY THOSE ELEMENTS TIME CANNOT WEAR
WERE MADE BEFORE ME, AND BEYOND TIME I STAND.
ABANDON ALL HOPE YE WHO ENTER HERE.”

I’m pretty sure he was in Australia.

It gets just as hot in Italy.
And there's probably twice as many bad drivers and adulterers 😄

The difference is that in Italy, the signs are like “ahh, when will you arrive in Rome? I don’t know. You going to stop for an espresso on the way? And how am I supposed to tell? What am I, the Pope? But enjoy yourself, we see you when we see you.”

And in Australia, as we’ve seen from Dave’s pictures, it’s like “Next water and fuel in a bajillion kilometers. Abandon all hope, Thou Vessel of Clay! You shall not pass! Beware of Blue-Ringed Zombie Wombats!”
