Email Ineos headquarters about what oil they recommend as the Petronas Synthium 0w30 DG isn't available publicly for purchase and this was the reply I received:

Haven't been able to find the Shell 0w30 XSA10001JH they recommend.

FWIW: Shell Australia website recommends Shell Helix 5w30 for all 2021-2023 BMW models with the B57 engine .. 5w probably because on average, it's a lot warmer here than in Europe !

Good timing @DenisM. I was just looking at Repco's oil sale. They have Penrite Enviro+ C2 0W-30 on a 25% off sale in a 7 litre pack.
Penrite claim BMW LL12 FE compatibility on this oil. Spec attached (sourced from the Penrite website)

I watched Engineering Explained's YT on thin oils last weekend. With 8,472 comments to date it's quite topical!

My opinion on this is, why not just use the recommended viscosity/weight by Ineos? 0W-30? It's not rocket science (kind of)? the lower W the better even if you live in Marble Bar....

If we're not careful this topic could become the new 'RHD footrest', or 'connect the red wire on the Smartpass' debate!

Of course selection of the correct oil weight is not as straightforward as assessing by comparison to the ambient temperature, even though that feels right.

Project Farm took a detailed look at 0W-16 and 0W-20 oils with objective wear measurements. Link

Alternatively just buy it from an Ineos dealer/agent (who probably all use different suppliers depending on their procurement policy) keep the receipt and use it should there be any warranty issues.

I'm not arguing to go off-spec with oil. It shouldn't need to be supplied by an agent to preserve the warranty although that's a safe approach.

What's the verdict. Did you buy? And any info from your agent regarding warranty? Will return home this weekend with 2500 on the clock. Considering a change at 5000km and then every 10k after. So many mixed opinions out there.

Yep I would ordinarily but it's 2hr round trip to collect the oil from the dealer and they want £22 per litre! So even without time and travel that's bl00dy expensive.

I have asked for exact spec of oil so I can arrange free delivery. All I have so far is:
SHELL 0W30 BMW T

which is not getting me very far.

Have not bought. No issue with the oil as it meets the BMW LL-12FE spec on the decal under the bonnet (hood). I'm at 3000km and planning a oil + filter change at 5000km. I'll probably get the agent to do the work. My back is currently cooked and that filter is in a crap spot to get to (and needs an uncommon socket size, cannot recall...).

Are you likely to pass another Ineos or BMW dealer on your travels before you need to top up with oil?

I'm equidistant between the one in 7Oaks and the one in Portsmouth - Ineos.

Hadn't thought about BMW dealer to be fair.

I have requested from Ineos the full Shell spec of the 0w-30. Certainly don't want to cock up the Gren's lifeblood or invalidate my warranty in anyway so ideally want the sign off from the agent.

I’m still thinking I’ll use a 0w40.
I'm still thinking similar but I really don't want to cock anything up. maybe when the Gren has fallen out of warranty....undecided.

Did it take a fuse out?
