“Selling” Grenadiers: People asking about your IG

I have been refuelling three times and always had people making questions.

Week ago when I had arrived to a local supermarket I noticed two men staring at the IG. Went to talk to them and they started: "Looks like a Land Rover but is it a Chinese G-Mercedes"? Then I started to tell the history and technics while we were looking at the car more closely. They had a good idea on the price, proposed 80 kEUR but I corrected it to 90 kEUR.

Worn down by the constant "What is that?" questions I finally succumbed to personalisation in an attempt to improve the vehicle recognition.
Satin concrete letters, although they look silver under my garage lights.

Yes from that Etsy link. I have corrected my post to 'matte cement'. I already had the gloss red lambda.
Easy to apply using the video instructions they provide.

When I got some real money I bought a Breitling. It lost 6 seconds a day and cost me £200 per year to service.

Compared to my £50 Casio which kept perfect time and just needed a new battery every couple of years.

I feel this way about lots of things. My watch, my job, my Grenadier, certain tools, items of quality clothing. Things that give pleasure and make one feel good.

Absolutely. ALL of my cool jackets/coats, funky tops, heels/ bad ass boots, jewelry — all superficial things that feel fun and make me me. Unique design in any form gets me.

And my Grenadier …. I love it *just bc it exists* - the rest of what it does and has is a bonus.

I parked next to a g wagen the other day to do some grocery shopping. The IG looks much more impressive next to the diminutive G Wagen.

We all arrived at the vehicle approximately the same time, after checkout. i started my vehicle first while the MB couple was still loading cargo. The gwagen husband was staring at the IG intently.. heard him utter “ineos” something to his wife…

I cringed hard as i turned the steering wheel, knowing the symphony of shit the IG is now subjecting them to. I made sure to press firmly on the gas pedal, as i pulled away, in an attempt drown out the whine..

Come fukin’ on Ineos! This is such bad look for your nascent brand image! “The cool looking SUV that always sound like shit”

So true… that steering pump noise is just unnecessary and a huge bummer

This conversation is touching on some of the main (and valid) criticisms of the Grenadier, especially given the highly publicized old Defender inspiration/heritage. It's a niche, exotic, luxury 4x4. It is not at all like the old Defender which was a proletariat truck and more or less conquered the entire globe. The IG is not for farmers, it's for gentlemen farmers (like Jeremy Clarkson). This probably explains its rather poor sales numbers in the UK.

I love the IG and am picking mine up as soon as it finishes whatever the dealer does when it comes off the train, I just think it's really important to make people aware of how the reality and the marketing differ when I talk to them about it.

Gave a tour to a guy at a sport goods store. He has a Defender pick up, I’m not familiar with those. Ended up we knew some people in common. He was aware of them, but hadn’t seen one up close.

Was driving Sunday morning back from breakfast with my daughter, and a teenage girl in a Suburban almost twisted her head off tracking us as we drove pas them. She was so intent I assumed she knew my daughter, but she didn’t know her.

I feel like a supermodel. People are always looking at me when I go down the road in my IG and I’m always hungry because I’m trying to lose weight…
