Has anybody had any thoughts on where the cabling for UHF/VHF radio may track?. Power to radios probably not an issue, however getting the coax cable from the radio to the aerial on the roof, bumper rear or front could require some neat thinking.

Don’t shoot me down - but what is the purpose of the radio fit? I used to use HF - but it is now being replaced with CPDLC for pilot communicating (effectively controlled text). Even VHF is slowly going that way. UHF still used by the military!

I have the heavy duty wiring and battery as standard on the Trialmaster. I've left it alone. I have a 100AH LiFePO4 DIY battery box with multiple outlets, 500W inverter and a DC-DC charger /solar which I use for fridges, lighting and UHF. It's ample for my needs.

Yes and if you go really remote you should take one. But we use UHF primarily for vehicle to vehicle communication and satellite phones are quite expensive for that. It’s also illegal to use a phone while driving but not illegal to use a radio.

RobH Refer pictures: Arial is 2.1 dbi with a separate 6 inch very flexible one. When folded flat it does not rise higher than roof rails. Wire follows down the path of the electrical connection in that position. I believe the installer removed the 6 screws holding that whole area in position.

So the aerial is on the top of the bonnet near the center of your windscreen? Seems an unusual place to put it. You would need to remove it every time you wanted to lift the bonnet, is that correct? As mentioned above, I’d be keen to see how you’ve installed your uhf please.

Because it is totally switched off now when ignition is off! There’s no way to get power for eg the phone charging…
