Beautiful weekend in Tuscany (Chianti Classisco - Siena - Montalcino - Pienza) on the Eroica trail (250km on gravel roads)
First day morning I did hit a piece of sharp plastic on tarmac with a result of a sharp cut in the Dueler - deflation within three seconds. While mounting the wheel I crushed the tool :)
The rest went very smooth in this beautiful landscapeView attachment 7832517
It is a very beautifully region, and good food! I didn't know there was an "Eroica trail", will have to look that up :)

First weekend of October - 9000 cyclists from around the world and many of them single speed.

This is truly a beautiful place on earth. Spent a short period there earlier this year as my young men had a ski race in Abetone. Would love to have been there at a warmer time of year too.
This suddenly made me think…..
As we have house sitters often when we are away, I’m now wondering about Grenadier swapping/sitting????
Because we don’t want them feeling abandoned or worse still forgotten ☹️
Wonder if we should start a thread 🤔

Montepulciano was arguably our favorite repeat destination while living abroad in London for 6 years (2012-18).
Countryside Villas removed from the touristy town, overlooking the regions amazing landscapes, local vinos (especially Brunello - Montalcino, 2012, 2015, 2016); and
we also attended the Bravio delle Botti, uphill wine barrel races (last Sunday of August) between the 8 districts.
Plan to return in 2024 or 2025 so let me know of any Grenadier rentals.

Really fun weekend with the Grenadier scouting trails for our Lyle Pearson Ineos Grenadier Hard Way Home handovers. Will your Grenadier handover be memorial?
I do hope you mean “memorable” rather than memorial? I know it’s a long wait, but hopefully youre not actually celebrating the death of your owners before delivery😉

Yes, the last bolt (antitheft). But I did not jump on it. Of course bought a new one. BTW Ineos will also substitute via warranty.

Grenadier - the matchmaker :) Indeed the car is an enabler to get in contact with super interesting and diverse people. Yes, I like the idea.

The car mats arrived today (cut from the template I sent them) ; each has a self adhesive velcro disc .
Also I picked up my car after 3 days at the detaling place where they installed the Bushwrapz kit.
The guy was very impressed with the clear wrap ; reckoned it would last 10 years despite the 5 year warranty that comes with the Advance wrap ; plus it beads water , which previous films he'd used didn't.
Said bring it back in a month for appraisal.

Going bushwalking tomorrow

So what did I do with my Grenadier this weekend?

Saturday it was a workday for "Ole", first driven hunt this year, -carrying some drinks to our hut, later taking hunters to their positions and collecting these. Morning dry afternoon pour down.-- lots of leaves on road, gravel road, forest pathways (plain ground with potholes, fallen tree branches etc.. pretty slippery.

Short rides and pull and hefty conditions raised fuel consumption to 13.5 litres of diesel per 100kms in average.
Need a couple of times to lock and unlock center diff - one time it caused an error on lock. (high lock)

To resolve - switch to unlocked , in Drive 3 metres forward and relock in one go, locking went in an all error messages disappeared.
Also once the problem with stuck door knob on left rear. Today I put a bit on silicone grease on all 5 door knobs .. problem resolved.

Today I took "Ole" to its first longer ride (about 120 mls in total, on road mixed country road in the Vogelsberg range and later on the way back on the autobahn, visiting my mother and took a kind of longer motorway testing - also have now almost 1100kms on the odo and perhaps its time to put some driving experience review after 1000kms plus. Two issues to mention on todays ride. Towards destination, the village next to this has some bent an worn out road (main street) near cemetery there was a small car with an elderly guy avoiding a car that stuck out a bit tiny bit its bonnet to main road and he was moving wide in my lane on collision course with me approaching. First time to use the main horn. Yep that gave the lad quite a telling on what side of the road he should belong to. Still we got some adrenaline. On way home in town of Fulda I was waiting on a side road on red signal - main road there was a young lad in a small black vehicle staring at our Grenadier.. eye almost popping out as my spouse told me.. I did not even notice most until I saw the lad paid so much attention to the Grenadier he nearly hit the traffic signal pole and missed his entry.. but he finally managed. The first near accident was a lad that did not paying attention to a Grenadier approaching and the second nearly happend because the lad paid too much attention to a Grenadier.

So now a 6 weeks summary of Grenadier with me.

So negative issues first:
Are there showstoppers and do I regret purchasing it - most certainly NO. Ole the Grenadier and myself are fine together.
QS issues:
Boot Shower - In early use I experienced the known issue of a water pouring down when opening front doors. This is now significantly less just some drips but not half a US gallon anymore even in the last days when we had hefty rain.
The torx nuts on side latches the ones above the jack store - where loose and not properly fastened.
Spouse attached an USB charging cable to the outlet in 2nd row when she pulled the cable out the casing holding the USB port was plugged out too.

Design issues. (minor but could be better)
One case there were fog on the glass of compass, disappeared once the vehicle was heated up.
Missing lamp on ignition key.
Rear view camera gathers rain drops and making it unusable. (As I wrote already all rearcams on any vehicle should be covered when not use. There should be a cover on top of of the rear registation plate to minimize effects of illumination in camera.
Door knobs need silicone..

Errors reported (electronics)
One cause - yesterday the center lock refused to lock in and reported dysfunction. - Switching back to normal rolling forward a few wheel turns and reattempted lock. Issues disappeared and lock enabled.

Experience:
Fuel consumption under offroad conditions with lots of start and stop up to 13.7l 100km
Fuel consumption on Road / Autobahn use with cruise speed of up to 140km/h (longer distance 10.7 . 11.1 l / 100km/h)
the related MPG you can convert yourself.
Noise and Vibration less than expected. I think of all vehicle noise the major cause is the BFG.
The ZF in 1 2 3 is really short set . and switches really fast.. the 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 get softer and longer.. .. 135 in 8 shows about 2200 RpM
The vehicle seems to warm up quite fast on 90C in display - which seems dubious to me, Motoroil temperature to 90C takes way longer than this. Getting oil temperature to operating level needs 3 miles drive.

X-Wind effects and wind noise - there is noticable wind noise - and some cross wind effects but less as expected. Perhaps the weight of the vehicle compensates.

The KO2 reacts a bit on poor road with bumps and if smear of leaves and dust on the road. Motorway / Autobahn is safe.
Steering correction on motorway is close to rack and pine almost none needed. But the roads in the Vogelsberg that are worn and need a new surface soon need quite some correction and focus. Gren was lingering in grooves of made by heavy lorries. - Off the road this is a really good tyre. Between towns of Lauterbach and Schlitz hill up there were a lot of leaves on the road. .. It was a bit spongy feeling at somewhat 50mph .. large long bend and one where some bikers ended in the coffin underestimating sudden changing surface conditions.
So better be a bit slower and avoid ..
Getting in and out with Side runners is easy. but I need to bend the head a bit.. on in and out. Seating is excellent. Best seats in all vehicles I ever used. Including the massaging seats in an S-Class Mercedes Benz I rented a couple of years ago.. I always thought Benz seats were top.. no .. its not the features.. its adjusting to anatomy. The feeling in Recaros is simply "yesss.. that is it"

My spouse managed to set the aircondition properly - so any mist appearing on windscreen disappears quick. And how to direct the temperature in a manageable level / Not too warm and not ice cold... the magic seems to direct the airflow, the temperature and then the auto switch to on, to keep maintain the settings.
Wipers okay - the effect of uncleaned area is less than expected.
The boot / trunk needs a rubber mat / no carpet there ..
The big front bumper may appear ugly to some people but it keeps a lot of mud spray away from headlamps.

So far, no leak in heater, no condensate from air condition, safari windows are fine and no water leaks or other issues noticed that were reported here.

End of 1000km report.
