Thanks to all of the folks who have spent time collating the shipping details, we've got some interesting details on VINs coming into the US.
According to the NHTSA vin decoder, SC6GM1CA4PF004879 - SC6GM1CA7PF005332 are MY23 vehicles. The first MY24 vehicle I can find is 5988. It will be interesting to see whether or not 5990-6395 surface in the US.

However - in @Fidei Defensor 's posted list, Aus/NZ-bound VIN's reach up to 8800, yet all are listed as model year 'P' - 2023

... so maybe don't read too much into the model year?

Hmmmmm Check this site: dial in your VIN. The 10th position is the model year: Here are the model years since 2000: Y=2000, 1='01, 2='02, 3='03, 4='04, 5='05, 6='06, 7='07, 8='08, 9='09, A='10, B='11, C='12, D='13, E='14, F='15, G='16, H='17, J='18, K='19, L='20, M='21, N='22, P='23, R='24, S='25.
If you got a P, you are 2023, R is 2024

I know this.

...yet later VIN's (6/7/8000's) are still being designated P (MY23). So Ineos make MY23 and MY24 concurrently??
That is weird! All the US deliveries are R...... We know that the US vehicles come with an ADAS 1 Emergency Braking camera. Maybe that is the only change to MY 2024?

Other than standard/optional features, ADAS-1 is the biggest change for MY24; the US is also the launch market for MY24 vehicles

Insurance companies can pull information based on VIN but it is still unclear to them.
I checked with State Farm and based on the VIN, they figured out the price and confirmed they could provide insurance and they need the Bill of Sale to get more details.

I got quoted bout $100 a month, which is a little on the higher end. I pay about $150 for 2011 F150 and 2020 Audi A8L combined.
Since it's a new car and the manufactured/parts from Europe is why it's more (as per my agent).

Good to know. I have State Farm as well.

I had success with an agent (USAA) on the phone providing the VIN # and vehicle data. The agent provided a quote and was able to manually associate the quote to the VIN so that I could reference it in my account.

I think that most automated (drop-down menu style) quote functions will not support a new vehicle manufacturer for some time after release.

Agent googled the Grenadier and asked a bunch of HMMWV and safari questions that were not related to the quote...

It does look like theres a difference in car culture.
In Australia, the year a car is made, by compliance plate, is significant.
In US it seems there is great significance placed o what the manufacturer announces is the ‘year model’, but clearly youre all ok with them making a 2024 car in july or august of 2023.
maybe Ineos, knowing the first batch of cars will largely hit the US from January on (only a few this year) have simply decided to call the first release 2024? Its not like they re hiding the manufacture date, and you are getting improvements rolled in, so Im not suggesting theres any trick here, just a difference in what various car markets care about, as a part of their culture.

Pure told me the same thing. They need to know replacement cost I guess.

My experience with purchasing in the US is by Oct the "next year" models are on the car dealer lots. So given current delivery times, the is receiving 2024 models.

Wikipedia has an interesting article on the topic:

"The new model year typically begins in August to September of the preceding calendar year, though can be as early as February, such being the case for the fourth generation 2022 Acura MDX, which started production in January 2021"

It continues on

"Model year followed with calendar year until the mid 1930s until then president Franklin D. Roosevelt signed an executive order to release vehicle model years in the fall of the preceding year in order to standardize employment in the automotive industry.[6] The practice of beginning production of next year's model before the end of the year has become a long-standing tradition in America."

Just as an aside while we are here, when it comes to sharing a VIN number, what parts are ‘hard coded’ that could be deduced by saying what the features are. And what are ‘private’ or specific to my vehicle, that I might not want to share for security or other reasons?
