Update on making your own soft shackles.
The latest soft shackle I’ve just completed is made with 10mm dyneema. I used 2.5m for one shackle
. .4-.5m is wastage but you neeed this extra length to make and work the diamond knot. I tried various prototypes including one with the “new improved stopper knot” which is called the big overhand knot , which is apparently even stronger as the two end are formed into a loops and the whole shackle threaded through itself. The downside is that the stopper knot is huge when using 10mm dyneema and 3m is required for one shackle.
one picture shows the shackle before working ends cut off and the other the finished article. A point to note is that dyneema doesn’t melt well when trying to seal the ends as mdpe rope does. In the end I used fire rope glue from our wood burning stoves. Similar to super glue I guess.
