Who does or doesn't celebrate Christmas? We don't have any children of our own so it's always been a bit of an odd time of year. Used to buy loads of stuff for nephews and friends children but they are all too old now.
Wife loves baking so she turns into a shortbread factory for December. Our fridge is full of butter and she's already made loads of the stuff. Baking fruit cakes today as she was too late for Christmas cake baking this year with other stuff going on.

I know the feeling. No kids. Nephews and nieces all have families of their own - and are all at least 500 miles away. Most of our local friends will be tied up with their families; so it's just the two of us - and the four dogs. Currently my wife is rather unwell. So Christmas will be quiet. Good food, leave the TV off, a good book in front of a log fire and maybe, just maybe, a rather special single malt 🎅 🥃🥃🥃:)

We're childless as well but are still lucky enough to have some young nieces and nephews. We're very generous with them a) because we love them but b) because we'll have to rely on them to take care of us in our old age!

Thanks for all the general waffle, good to get to know you all, we know we have a shared interest already but I felt it would be good to learn a bit more about each other. Might help with long-term friendship.
Not like me to be nice and sentimental 🤪

Best wishes to everyone for Christmas and the new year

No one has anything to waffle about since 2024…?!? We are due for a good waffle.

I did hear a rumor that another female has possibly joined the forum so our population has basically DOUBLED. But everybody knows that 1 woman is worth like 50 men, so our population is really 100 if we’re honest.

Get yerself in here other fabulous Grenadier driving lady!

It has gone a bit quiet on the old nonsense side. Everyone must still be suffering with hangovers.

What is everyone's plans for the new year. We nearly moved to Cornwall last year but it didn't come off. In the process of selling a property so fingers crossed it goes through ok and it will mean it is easier for us to move if another job opportunity comes up for 'the wife'.

I had noticed another female Grenadier owner had joined, which is only good news for the discussions.

Plans for 2025:

1). Enjoy life
2). Maintain my mastery of bone-idyllness
3). Eat and drink excessively.
4). Read lots of books.
5). Enjoy my Grenadier.
6). Meet lots of Grenadier owners.
7). Love my four dogs.
8). Holidays on the mainland.
9). Trip to Finland to photograph wolves, bears and wolverines.
10). Stop compiling boring lists.

Moving to Cornwall, which is a beautiful county without doubt, is not my list. It’s too far from Islay!

How do you know that you are the only female Grenadier? Maybe there are many more who just choose not to make a thing of it? :devilish:
Annie, for one, who's now overlading and touring Africa. Eagerly awaiting her next update on progress.

I was too late getting a property in the Highlands, the taxes I would have to pay to purchase a 2nd property are just ridiculous, thankfully I got the one in Cornwall when it was just the standard stamp duty. Ideally I wanted one at each end of the UK. Nothing better than the open spaces in the Highlands but Cornwall is warm for my joints and doesn't have the midges

As many trips in Tasmania as we can manage (Tasmania being like a combo of Scottish Highlands , Cornwall and New Zealand - without the midges and frigid temperatures!)
Oh and a trip To Europe (conference in Vienna. maybe a self guided trek there , and complete the trip to the Isle of Skye/Lewis etc we had to postpone due to the Chinabatvirus.

Looks an amazing place to visit, wife won't go anywhere near though as her phobia of spiders is a little extreme.

You watch too much TV!
This little island is no more riddled with them than the UK.
The 2 harmful species - very rarely spotted, and I've been walking the great outdoors for 54 years - and have lived in the bush for 28.

Her extreme fear is horrendous. The smallest dot in the bathroom means she won't go in there until I've removed it. If i ever drop and lose one, I pretend to throw out the window anyway just for a bit of peace.
