Fairly new to the forum, so forgive me if this is an unreasonable request. As soon as the first member of the forum receives their IG, perhaps they can start a new thread with a more uplifting title than “sick of waiting” or “no longer sick of waiting”, rather than amend the delivery announcement to this thread. That will provide a placeholder where everyone that follows can post the experience and first impressions once they get their IG. Granted I have not suffered the frustration as others on here have, but I’m sure I’m not alone in wanting to share in the excitement of new owners, and wouldn’t it be great if that excitement was reflected in the title. All in favor?…

It’s always good to have some of the daughters stickers on the phone.

There is a thread that was opened some days ago by @Stu_Barnes (THE forum big boss), for this purpose:

Sorry no photo, but I saw my first “in the wild” Gren this evening. It was magic mushroom, rear ladder and sorry no photo.. was on the road between Thrapson and Corby 7.30pm and i wasn’t quick enough to get my camera out. They have lots of presence on road…

still sick of waiting, but the Grenadier is “sick” to use an urban vernacular.

Well, mine has eventually arrived at the dealer and I'm off to see it. Still can't collect for another 2-3 weeks though......
Mine has been in the dealers from late March, been there, seen it, sat in it, started it and i am still waiting.
If there is a problem Ineos should just come clean, most would rather that than this constant string along.
You can't blame the dealers as they are at the mercy of Ineos as much as we are, they are not allowing them to release the vehicles without Ineos's say so.
The whole thing is beginning to leave a bad taste.
If this is the level of service we as can expect before the cars are on the road what's it going to be like getting spares when things go wrong or the first one is damaged in an accident and you need body panels etc.

Everything seems to be pointing towards actual delivery. Mine has been in the dealer since early February and is good to go once the brake pipe has been lashed on. I’ll continue to give IA slack as the product is unique

A funny thing happened last Friday at my dealer.

When the guy told me that they were waiting for the manuals, I told him I had the English and French Manuals on my computer … he was completely stunned!

He didn’t know that Ineos did publish the manuals on their website for several hours!

This forum is fantastic … I probably wouldn't have noticed!

They expect future problems ...
IA obviously wants to become better in communication of problems in future (at least for the BE version of the future.

"and/or services from INEOS Automotive when the cars have already left the production plant. The Recall and Service Specialist manages ..."

I know, we early owners are certainly Guinea Pigs ...
I hope not, but I expect some problems.
Not only the "Jean Mercier syndrome":cool:

I don't think so. Your vehicle has now been subjected to the highest QA scrutiny. No other manufacturers mass produced car goes through this level of inspection. I am confident when they finally let you get your hands on it, it will be the most reliable vehicle on the road.

I was clearing out my desk today and found a little card that was guidance to all involved with technical issues and concerns in an Australian automotive company. It defines a management category (A,B,C etc.) and how to implement the countermeasure to the concern.

It says this for Management Category B:
  • Seriousness: ESSENTIAL (High warranty, customer reaction)
  • Countermeasure target timing: Immediate
  • Implementation of countermeasure in plant: Stop shipment until actioned. Rework to new condition.
  • Implementation of countermeasure in field: Consider recall or other appropriate field action.
So I for one believe this is what's going on.
In this case 'appropriate field action' is to get brake and steering hoses out there and correctly fitted.

Happy to wait to be honest.

I also found another card that is titled 'The Eight Primary Values All Customers Crave' published by the Institute for Lean Design.

  • Performability: will the product perform the way I expect?
  • Affordability: will it be within my cost expectation?
  • Featurability*: will it have features that provide me added benefits?
  • Deliverability: will it be ready when I want it?
  • Useability: Can I quickly learn how to use it?
  • Maintainability: How easy will it be for me to keep in service?
  • Durability: Is it robust enough to withstand the abuse myself &others give it?
  • Imageability: Will it convey the image of quality & prestige I desire?
*Their spelling, not mine

For me the Ineos Grenadier ticks all these boxes. I know some will take issue with 'Deliverability' but, all other things considered, it will be worth waiting for

no doubt.

Haha Affordability for anything over $120K AUD for new placeholders is probably up there! But then, what can you really buy for just over the $100K mark? Australians are now buying $95K Thai made utes... so maybe!

Grenadier will be a complete and total success really, late delivery and poor comms or other issues. It won't matter, as it will be sold out for years to come.

Curious to know your thoughts on why.
For me, the IG is a niche vehicle with a defined following with other options to also consider and if Ineos doesn’t get the numbers right - price, quantity, quality….
I don’t think it will ever be “mainstream or mass market“ and sell in huge numbers.

It does however have a strong potential future in commercial fields, particularly the ute, although it will have potential challenges with some of the big players like BHP who demand strong ANCAP

Purely based on people wanting a vehicle that they will not be able to easily obtain... unless like you said it fails in price, quality, etc. I can see this vehicle being in high demand for ex Landcruiser owners, Ex Defender owners, Real Estate/Boat Sales agents etc etc. With their smaller production forecasts (niche), it will be sold out for a long time. That is also not including us users who want it for what is it - a utilitarian off road vehicle.

The Grenadier fails the "affordability" test for a mass market car.

But, then, it's not - so given it's an extremely niche product - I think history will judge both the initial and secondary price points as meeting that criteria. (I think the first price is actually a bargain).

If, as some predict & expect, further material price increases over the next 12 months, pushing a modestly optioned Grenadier above A$150,000 then maybe not.
