It was a bit tongue-in-cheek, meaning we're in his debt, but yes, we're definitely helping each other out here. Your contributions are invaluable and numerous!

Appreciated emax. ThanksDepends on the firmware and the printer. Some can resume, others can't.
My Voron printer can be pimped in many ways and should then be able to resume.
As to the speed: As with everything, you can usually tune your 3D printer for speed. A different nozzle, heating and fast motors and even more important the motor controllers can speed up a printer up to ten times of it's normal speed.
This always comes at a price: Less accuracy, more wear, more noise, higher end (and thus more costly) components, you name it ...
There are (of course) many competitions of which is the fastest printer. The so called "Benchy", a small boat, is commonly used as a benchmark.
A normal one takes about an hour to print and usually looks like so:

But the fastest FDM printers (what we are talking about here) take less than 3 minutes to print it. The results look comparably ugly, but are still complete Benchies. Even though no one wants such ugly results, these guys are doing the doable and push the technology forward. Such printers are masterpieces of mechatronics, software, timing and knowledge.

This is btw a Voron as well, but I think there is no more original part in it. Tuned to the maximum.
3D printing is not for those in a hurry. You usually print a prototype in low quality, and if it works you print again in a quality which is a good compromise of time and result. Switch it on, and if the workpiece is large look at it the next day or even later. Your printer shouldn't sit in the living room. And an office or a workshop off the sleeping and living area is mandatory.
Even smaller projects usually take at least one or a few hours. It always takes time.
If the printer is in good working order and well set up, 3D printing is definitely mature. And you can make things which you couldn't otherwise.
The examples here show which universe of constructions appeared with 3D printing.
The gear bearing from Emmett (a master of design) for example, starting at 2:15, can not be built with traditional methods, it is impossible. It is not assembled but was printed as one piece in one wash.

Whilst I understand what you mean by the spirit of the forum and I deeply thank those who generously share. I will flag that my son is doing a few little projects for me and I may offer some of those for a small fee for him and not for me, if it was my work I would give for free, but he is a student of design and a) like all students he always needs cash b) this is his future career. Hope you understand. Although there is still a chance he won’t be bothered and will just give them away.We share, we say "thank you" if we want (would be nice), no royalty, no copyright, I hope this is the purpose of this forum, otherwise I leave

The answer is ... Four?
A Creality Ender 3 is a good, price-worthy 3D printer and doesn't cost a fortune, around €170. Has proven to be reliable and has a big community on the web.convince the Minister for Finance and War that a 3D printer is an essential

The answer is fortytwo, isn't it? (following the "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy").The answer is ... Four?
if you know how to do it please let me knowI'm wondering how to convince the Minister for Finance and War that a 3D printer is an essential after market Grenadier option...

Wow. With that kind of setup, maybe accidentally print an additional one I’ll dm my addressI have no experience in 3D printing but i knew we had five 3D printers at work (i approved the purchases). I walked over to over mechanical engineering team with the file and asked them if they could print it for me, ideally in orange. They looked the file and told me this would be easy to print.
I have no idea what resolution etc we are using at work, i suspect its very good because its a pretty minute difference between our injection molded parts vs our printed parts we use in the prototyping process.
They told me it would take 48 hours to print this on the printer so they would do it over a weekend. they said that the part doesn't use very much filament so it should be fine. I was kind of surprised how long it would take given your comments about a couple of hours.
I asked how much the printer was to see if they put me on some old obsolete printer, but they told me it was a 2022 model year printer that cost about $50K in the base version but they had it upgraded to about $70k. Its significantly larger than the printers i've seen pictures of in this thread.
They had some much smaller printers as well but they said those wouldn't be ideal for this print job. The guy in charge of the mechanical engineering department told me that seeing the picture in the cubby was helpful for them to determine how they where going to print this. They said that they will probably fire this off over thanksgiving since the printers won't be used for other stuff over the long weekend.
If its not obvious, I'm kind of clueless at deep mechanical engineering. Lets talk software or Electrical engineering and i'm in my comfortable space.
