this thread made me nervous enough to not run the windshield defrost.. lol haven’t had a need to yet, but the hvac sometimes run it on its own so I make sure to enable feet mode

When I get my windshield replaced I'm planning to not run defrost, just run the HVAC on auto. until the windshield warms up. It'll be slower, for sure, but less expensive than replacing windshields at $2300 a pop.

I have a pretty similar one, it started a bit more to the left from the bottom of the screen. I noticed it after some hours driving on the motorway and did not notice anything flying into the window. My dealer reached out to Ineos and their reply was that it must have been a stone since they are not aware of tension cracks.
Will cost me 150€ and the rest will be paid by all of the G drivers in Germany through insurance premiums 😤
Thanks for pointing out that others have experienced this, too. Will check facebook.

How long from your seeking repair from RDS to installation?
I had the same jeep shield whatever bought. The installers screwed up and they install their own. They say theirs last 2 years vs 6months x layer x 3 as the jeep shield promises.

Crack in very similare spot. No signs of rock chip.
From the inside is looks like the rest but check the outside at the bottom for signs of impact. Not the flat part of the screen but the edge.

Here you go.
Car from X/24.
Waiting for a replacement.
Went straight to the insurance company.
Lets see.
Cheers.

Sad to see so many more cracked windshields. This was my preventative measure and so far so good.

So I bought this rubber molding on Amazon for $15 and stuck it to the bottom of the windshield. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B6ZSCY37/?tag=globalgrena0b-20

There is a theory that small rock fragments flow up our hood and may chip the bottom edge of our windshield and then the high heat from our defroster causes expansion and then a crack. It's not pretty, but functional I hope. This is all I'm going to do in addition to keeping my defroster at 70 degrees whenever I run it.

Does it still bother you from an appearance perspective?

I am thinking if I do it, I would ensure the strip extends beyond the glass and then trim it to match the curvature in the corner.. make it look a bit more “stock” looking?

I don't even notice the appearance. You can definitely try to trim it differently, but I couldn't find a better way without compromising the sticky contact with the windshield. The rubber flexes, but not in that direction.

So you have exercised your windshield in various scenarios of temperature extremes and no cracking huh?

The trimming I was thinking of is illustrated below.. blue is the rubber trim and black is windshield. Trim via the dashed line, to fit the curve of the windshield. This won’t work you say?

Nice. Would be great to share some pics of where you applied this. Thx
I tried to make it go around the corner on the right without cuts and kinda made a dog's breakfast of it. Put relief cuts in the left corner and it might be a little better. Been on there a year now and I don't notice at all.
Other than the corners, it looks great.
Terminated at the top corners.

So you have hit the windshield with defrost hot air on cold days, no issues huh?

Yes.
I don't baby it or treat it any differently than any other car.
Not a great lot of days that call for defrost here in Memphis, though.
Plenty of days this past summer that I had condensation on the bottom of the windshield from A/C...
