Once mine is replaced I am going to 1) add the protection film again, 2) Not use the defrost when letting the Gren warm up/sit for any period of time. 3) Considering 3D printing a deflector to sit on top of the defrost vents and slightly deflect the flow straight up so the bottom edge of the windshield isn't getting roasted.
hey, what about installing a nano carbon strip of film? or the whole windshield. they are well known by deflecting heat. they come in 100% clear for the front windshield.

Autoglass turned up to today to fit my new windscreen. However, they quickly realised that it would not be changed today. They brought an MY23 windscreen and not an MY24. They then checked to order the MY24 screen only to be told they have no stock of the MY24 windscreens in the UK. So it will need to be sourced from Ineos directly.

Then they told me that it cannot be changed in the home but needs to be at one of their outlets, but may be possible at the dealer. And then they told me that they have to do an over the air check or OBD check on the camera before removing the screen. Obviously, there is no over-the-air access, and the OBD, as we know, is still locked down, and they don't know if they have access to it yet.

So, I will be showing my crack for a bit longer than expected.

For reference, the repairer believed it was not heat shock or strain as right at the bottom of the screen there was a chip. It was on the outer edge of the glass rather than the face. So, it did have an impact. I mentioned all the others that have had cracks in a similar place, and he reckoned that it's unlikely to be a fault with the car but where an object/stone hits under the windscreen and is then pushed upwards into the edge of the glass that is exposed. As there is no protection given to the glass, the edge takes the full impact and weakens that spot, allowing a crack to grow from it. He said that exposed screens like that are more likely to get cracks than those those that have rubber or synthetic protection around them.

When I get my windshield replaced I'm planning to not run defrost, just run the HVAC on auto. until the windshield warms up. It'll be slower, for sure, but less expensive than replacing windshields at $2300 a pop.

I have a pretty similar one, it started a bit more to the left from the bottom of the screen. I noticed it after some hours driving on the motorway and did not notice anything flying into the window. My dealer reached out to Ineos and their reply was that it must have been a stone since they are not aware of tension cracks.
Will cost me 150€ and the rest will be paid by all of the G drivers in Germany through insurance premiums 😤
Thanks for pointing out that others have experienced this, too. Will check facebook.

How long from your seeking repair from RDS to installation?
I had the same jeep shield whatever bought. The installers screwed up and they install their own. They say theirs last 2 years vs 6months x layer x 3 as the jeep shield promises.
