my original windshield lasted 7 days and finally 3 months later got replaced this week. 3 days later and another rock from the road just made another 3 foot+ crack.

Has anyone else replaced multiple windshields too? I’m starting to think this could be a design flaw or possibly low quality glass being used by Ineos. I’ve cracked one windshield bad enough to need replacement in 20 years of driving jeeps and pickup trucks. And 2 on a Grenadier so far this year…🧐

I’m hoping my insurance doesn’t drop me after two $2000 windshields in a week

If you anyone reading this is from Ineos Automotive or an attorney and would like to look into this further with me, please reach out.
I have asked the same questions. I have an MY23 INEOS that has recently had three cracked / replaced windscreens (four cracks in total) in less that four months. All originated from small stone impacts on highways from on coming traffic. New Zealand road chip seal being very poor quality is causal factor, maybe very bad luck, or INEOS have a glass quality issue.

Had my third windscreen fitted yesterday.
Owned my Grenadier for 14 months and covered 12,000 miles so far.
Both stone impacts were whilst on motorway; first was a chip 30mm in from right side edge. Took a month to spider out. A hot day finished it off.
Latest one was a stone which I heard striking the screen. Thought I’d got away with it until five minutes later a crack crept up from bottom right hand edge.

First replacement was an Ineos branded screen. Newest one is Pilkington. Both same part number. Shame, as I was hoping Pilkington makes a better quality screen, but I suspect they supply direct for Ineos.

INEOS and all other manufacturers.
The grenadier glass is exactly the same spec and manufacturer as the JLR units and I had the same repeated issues with their vehicles too. (Both Discovery and ND)
I believe glass is a less durable material in screens these days. Not sure why, maybe weight reduction maybe safety issues 🤷🏼‍♂️
The insurance industry is sure to start clamping down on this problem worldwide in the near future in the face of significantly increased exposure!
And the customers will be expected to pick up the slack!

Pilkington are indeed the OEM supplier.

My wife and I were in the South Island at Arrowtown in September only for a week and I knew that you had been there a little time before that, I will reach out next trip to see were you are.

My daughter lives in Arrowtown and each year we do a couple of trips, she and her partner are screen.jpg
keen 4x4 hunting adventure types taking us on some of the roads I am sure you would've been on.
The windscreen issue is just out of control. The grit is there for saving lives when the conditions are poor but it is not being removed properly, Dead if they don't and damned when they do. My daughter and partner adapt and just live with it and insurance. With the airbags and seat belts does the glass not rate as much...armoured glass or back to the future...see pic

That would be cool. Our boys ski race so we are always there for at least a month each year in support 🤣
I really want to do more of the local tracks down there having only done part of the Macetown last winter in my ND and loved it.
Didn’t take Shitake up there too far this year as I had the dreaded “wading mode not available” warning and it’s a very river based track!
Beautiful area.

Does anyone in the forum have experience with using windshield repair kits in the event of a road trip without the option of professional glass repair?
And yes @Zimm I read what you wrote above. 😉

I have used them successfully on other cars and a truck windscreen, but no luck on the Grenadier when I got a star from a stone impact. As pressure was applied injecting the resin the star quickly became a crack that spread to the edge of the screen.

Yes I successfully used a diy repair kit and still good many months and thousands of miles later. I have no recollection of the brand though.

We've had a couple cold nights and the crack isn't advancing.

The heater taking 10 miles to warm up must have been a deliberate attempt to keep the crappy windshield from experiencing a rapid temp change. These guys thought of everything!

This crack went from non-existent to this in 12 hours.
Dealer says a new one is $3,000 installed parts and labor
Hard to see in the photo of the house across the street….easy to see when driving the Grenadier

That a bit more to the right of where most everyone else’s crack starts…

This was mine. It started as a chip and went bad quickly.

$2500 for a replacement. Mobile service. I still need to get the camera recalibrated. I am considering getting a coating prior to that.

Hey @74CampySuperRecord - Would you mind sharing who the mobile service was from?

Cheers.

Racing Optics Windshield defense is getting installed this morning! My crack happened at 350 miles was localized. My Autozone Permatex filler kit seems to have worked as it hasn't spread in the last 4700 miles. Confident that the crack is stable I am getting the Racing optics put on before the road salt and sand make an appearance later this week. I bought the kit from Windshield Defense (very helpful on phone and email) for about $250, I'm having the company that installs this for our race cars is charging $250 to put it on. He and the manufacturer both had the same response when I asked if I could install it myself, which was, "You could do it yourself, should you is another question". For $250 I'll let the guy with hundreds of installations put it on!

Around $750. Comes with a 2-yr warranty that includes a $1,000 credit towards a replacement or insurance deductible.
I had Exo-shield (the 3mm standard) installed shortly after I picked up the Grenadier last March. So far so good. They also make a product called Ultra-shield (5mm I think) - their customer support (I think they’re based in Canada) told me that an installer should be able to cut it to size. I had my dealer coordinate it all for me during a business trip so I’ve never spoken to the installation contractor.

Exo-shield FTW I have it on all my cars here in AZ. I haven't replaced a windshield in over 5 years.
