Power steering noise

Hello everyone;) I was finally able to pick up my grenadier yesterday🥳 Unfortunately, I noticed at home that my power steering makes a strange noise. I think it's not a normal noise, or? The filling level in the container was at maximum with the engine warm but switched off. The German instructions do not say exactly in which condition the oil should be checked. Does anyone have an idea? I tried to post a video but I always see the file is too big (7mb)
Thank you;)

My local dealer heard back from Ineos that this is normal and different pumps will have different levels of loudness. It is however a common reaction that people think my vehicle ‘sounds broken’ when are they first checking it out. If windows are up and going above 20mph I don’t hear it all.

I should add they suggested after market insulation may be an option and I’ll look into that. I feel like this is an issue that will vary vehicle to vehicle and whether it’s annoying will probably vary from person to person.

That's a good steer Brad, pun intended.
The electric motor and pump combo are not particularly quiet so assessing what is a normal sound is subjective.

I was watching a video on YouTube and incidentally the Grenadier power steering was whining a bit and I thought about this thread and was wondering if there was any updates lately from Ineos on the folks that were having this issue. Just curious.

Hi, I have had no response from my NSW-based agent at all. There is a price to be paid from being an early adopter!
At 5,000 km the noise persists making the driving experience under 40kmh pretty poor. No issue at higher speed.

FYI - I've also picked up a rattle behind the centre console under acceleration, a squeal in the air-conditioning fan when on it's higher settings (3 and 4), the drivers push button in the door sticks within the lock, meaning until it is worked loose the front door will not lock, and the car sets off the rear passenger seatbelt alarm the drive after rear passengers have been in the car.

More updates when available.

Latest news - all issues remain unresolved ( and the new "servicing days countdown" visual alarm that comes on every 10 seconds, for 10 seconds !). I'm switching from my NSW Central Coast agent to a Sydney one - where I think the care factor seems much higher!

To update on my experience todate.

For 6 months I’ve been driving an early loan vehicle. Zero power steering pump noise.

Just picking up my new 2024 vehicle and have a very loud power steeribg pump sound. It’s loud enough for other ppl around to ask what’s wrong.

Like others have said it is definitely not normal for a vehicle to make this noise

I am struggling with this as mine certainly makes the same defining sound and yet so do many other Grenadiers I've seen at my dealer. The dealer did take the issue up with Ineos who declared it 'normal'. I can't think of another vehicle I have heard with such a loud squeal from the power steering pump. It may be 'normal' for Ineos but I am fairly sure that does not make it 'right'. I would replace the pump out of pocket if I believed it would eliminate or even decrease the squeal.

… and I did ask the Service Manager if he has ever heard a Grenadier not make the noise and he said no, that they all do. I have only seen a few of their vehicles in motion and they all squealed. He said you can hear a Grenadier coming around the corner because of this telltale sound. Such a bizarre thing and I’m banking on a future improvement.

That’s rubbish. I’ve just been driving one for 6 without a peep.

I’ll be speaking to my dealer on Wednesday.

The squealing comes and goes. Would I be correct the squealing is from when it under load. Ie turning in car parking lots vs driving in a straight line. Why does the steering fluid reservoir always seep fluid when you wiped it clean? I can’t understand why this is normal and built for purpose. Can Ineos engineers please explain? Would there be trapped air? Is there such a thing?

Good question. I’m going to look into what the system looks like. Having the manuals woukd be handy.

Someone stated the pump is electrically driven. If so it could be motor? But would also explain how the noise switches on and off when fluid flow is required. More like pump cavitation with air in fluid ?

Either way my last grenadier didn’t do it.

You're right. I have my second Grenadier and have driven 3,600 km with the first and 2,700 with the second.

No noise from either.
