Why would you do that?
For other vehicles, it is so you don't need to get under them or lay on the ground... I use this method on our Sprinter (and in the past a few other vehicles where the filter was on top)

I understand the need and desire for vehicles that don't have the insanely easy access to the drain plug (as easy as on old Land Rovers), but not for the Grenadier.

It's far less messy too. Plus, if I'm not mistaken, some vehicles no longer have drain plugs and can only be serviced with the vacuum setup.

Definitely less messy... I've gotten pretty good at lining up a drain pan after years of doing it, but just letting the extractor suck it all out is much easier

Mercedes and some other brands designed their cars to be changed this way. People even did a comparison vs drain and it was the same or even more oil extracted. That's why they took the effort to put the filter up top. Disappointingly the Gren doesn't have this, for a safari truck, not having a dip stick is questionable.
