Let's get some perspective: Is your Grenadier AC working as it should?

Who else's AC is batsh1t crazy and randomly blows hot air one day and cold the next on the exact same setting? I don't think the AC system got the attention it deserved during the 1.2 million miles of road testing, that's for sure. I love my new truck but it's the one thing that drives me nuts on pretty much a daily basis as I fiddle away at the controls and I'm surprised Ineos haven't found a fix for it yet. I gather it's down to sticky solenoid valves or such like and is probably an expensive warranty concern for them.

It would be useful to set up a poll on this forum and get an idea of what percentage and numbers of owners here have flaky AC. This forum must represent a decent amount of the Grenadier owner population, perhaps it would help sharpen Ineos' perspective on the issue if it popped up on every Google search relating to Grenadier AC issues. I don't have the ability to raise a forum poll but maybe @Stu_Barnes would consider it a worthy exercise

Auto mode is designed to not work immediately.

The heater / air conditioner has to achieve the desired temp before it turns itself on automatically. At that point, depending on the interior temperature of the vehicle, it may blast hot or cold air for a few minutes to achieve the selected interior temp. After that, the fan speed should regulate to a much more comfortable setting - I.e., quiet. In the beginning of the blast cycle, you may experience a few seconds of unwanted hot or cold air as the lines, compressors, etc., clear out the stored ambient air.

Yes, it can take a few minutes, or longer, for the AC or heater to get to operating temps, especially on hot or cold days.

I leave mine on Auto year round as I’ve done with every car I’ve owned for the last couple decades. I don’t like blasting cold air on myself during winter and vice versa for summer waiting for the heater / AC to adjust.

I did use Auto initially, after picking up the Gren in January, but as the temps warmed I switched to manual. I occasionally tried Auto mid-Summer and it was immediately blowing 100% without stopping, even after a stable and comfortable interior temp was reached. I will give it another try.

Even when you change vent selection, like from dash to floor? In cold weather, and manual mode, this 100% results in a blast of cold ambient air.

Any time I have tried auto mode it goes to full blast and stays there. It also blows very humid air and never cools down. I don’t know if that is what Ineos intended but is not what I thought it would be.

Mine is currently working fine but have had several times where it has switched to hot. We are past AC season here so we’ll see what next year brings and hope the heat doesn’t start blowing AC at -25 .

I don’t know. I never change vent selection other than occasional defrost. I just leave it on Auto. I trust it knows what it’s doing.

If it blows continually, it might be inadvertently set to Max. The temp control is not the most intuitive - “turn dial, check screen for the 1 second the temp displays and hope you read it right!”

Humid air usually means a faulty evaporator. There’s likely a temperature sensor on the evaporator coil that has gone bad.

My dealer keeps telling me they can’t find anything. I’m leaving on a 1000 mile trip tomorrow, crossing my fingers the AC works just in normal mode.

same issue where occasionally the rear blows hot. My workaround until I can reset by turning it off for 5+ minutes is close the back vents and put it in auto mode all the way cold. That makes it bearable. Living in SW Florida I use the ac most every day.

Had mine in on Monday to diagnose A/C faults (mostly as described in this thread).
First thing they did was vacuum bleed the coolant system, as this is apparently responsible for many of the A/C problems (air locks).
Once bled, they tested the system and agreed that all was not as it should be.
A job request was then sent to Ineos who have to authorise the deeper search, which I’m told will take a couple of days as it involves ripping out most of the dash and interior.
My supplier has had a few in for A/C issues, and said that the coolant bleed cured most of them.

They also performed the latest software update (2 hours) which only came out last week.
I haven’t noticed any thing different.

I've had the new update, stop start is more temperamental, throttle response better from stop, hill hold works, and the adblue range has increased.
Other than that, heading is still useless. Hot air in back warm in front when manual full heat. Hot in front using auto but makes a vibration in dashboard, something flapping. First setting down from full heat is cool or cold and depending on where you aim the air you get a different heat
