Do you actually need the VRM to get a quote ?? I assume you are just trying to get an idea on prices at the minute.

Someone else had the same problem on the forum, but I am not sure how or when it was resolved.
Yes someone on this forum was given the wrong number one digit or letter wrong I think. If the number plate is correct and can be recognised by the insurance company’s then I will decide tomorrow and get it insured and ready to go.

I’ve been shopping around this morning.
Direct line couldn’t qoute for the 2 seat utility petrol version. Bright water brokers couldn’t qoute. Compare the market came in at over £2000😳. A-Plan could qoute but not competitive at £1100 plus but were very helpful and informative. Money supermarket came up with £638 from Admiral and £648 from Gladiator. That’s more like it. 12000miles per annum social domestic and commuting 8yrs no claims bonus 👍🏼
still going to shop around a bit but I reckon that’s as good as I’ll get, unless anyone has got some more suggestions 🤔

£665 with Churchill - Comprehensive Plus cover.
£71k value, 12k miles per year, £250 voluntary excess, 7yrs NCD (protected)
Comparison sites gave much lower quotes but once you try and close the deal you run into problems with underwriters.

I See your Grenadier is a Belstaff edition. I just tried Churchill and won’t insure the N1 version on their van insurance website. They ask would I like to be transferred to Brightside insurance brokers for a qoute but already tried that and the won’t insure my Grenadier either. Looks like Admiral it is then 👍🏼

Spent 2 days on the phone, went with NFU but need to fit cat2 immobiliser £601 for trialmaster
There is no consistency, I am insured through NFU and paying virtually the same for my Fieldmaster - when I asked if I could get a discount if I added a Tracker, additional high level immobiliser and front and rear Dashcams, the answer was No! I added them anyway.

Whilst it is clearly peace of mind for yourself, I assume you have been allowed to insure the vehicle with them with no tracker, whilst Macblloby has been denied insurance unless he has one, that’s not a discount, NFU have decided in their wisdom the he needs one in his area or something like that.

They have decided they are happy with your risk without having one, so your discount was you actually didn’t need to spend the money in the first place.

You just have further peace of mind with it

NFU are requesting a Thatcham category 2 immobiliser - assume this means I would need to fit another device. Seems insane on a modern car given the electrical gremlins I will try elsewhere.
Try Churchill. Me and wife full NCB no alarm requirements £441 comp plus.
250 miles a year , both late 80's :)

It is difficult to make comparisons as it is very much postcode based.
A good few years ago I lived 12 miles drive from Carlisle with a CA4 postcode.
I few years later the postcodes were red-zoned and whilst living at the same address the postcode was reassigned to CA8. My house insurance, house contents insurance and motor vehicle insurance premiums immediately dropped significantly, saving £100s of £s

A decent price that but just clarify the 250 miles a year. I assume it’s a typo or you are going to park it on your drive and not use it

Yes this is what I was eluding to. Like a lot of things in the UK, insurance is a postcode lottery

The first bit is accurate. 10K pa parked on drive in rural area. We're actually 62 and retired - so no commuting element

So my final quotes were:

Admiral £565.63
Gladiator £610.58
LV £642.42
Adrian Flux £1,396.01

All based on zero NCB. No requirements for any additional security.

Oddly both Admiral and Gladiator were cheaper via Compare the Market than Money Supermarket.

Edit: I should have added that including my wife as an additional driver dropped the price by £222.70 with Admiral!

As someone has said Adrian Flux as the forum preferred insurer is a non starter.

They will certainly be guaranteed of not getting a phonecall off me come the time for insurance.

The other prices that you have been quote DCPU I can stomach for a new vehicle.

It’s a shame about Adrian Flux. I used them when insuring my Defender and they were always competitive and helpful on the phone. I haven’t heard from anybody on this forum who have got a competitive quote from them.

I believe the level of security increases with cost of vehicle, different insurers have there own thresholds starting with immobilisers up to tracker then requirement for both. shame we did not get a better system in the first place. asked my dealer and they only repeated what was written in IA blurb. so we have no idea what level we get as standard. I am waiting cost of fitting immobiliser from my local specialist, will declare when known. still hope to pick up car on Monday, that's exactly 1 year in the system.

Yes, they were happy to insure without a Tracker! However I now have additional peace of mind.
