Day 4
It was a fun day finishing the rimrocker and going over Geyser Pass to Kokopelli trail to Porcupine Rim.
Leaving the lake campsite in the high pines.

To porcupine rim, which is a serious trail on stock 31”’s-bring 34”s or bigger.

And then things Went to HELL

Migs slipped while spotting and broke the crap out of his ankle (zoom in for ice and swelling!)
Due to lateness of the day we were forced to camp there, just at the top. Consolation prize was the best views ever while having your ankle stabilized.

So bed early for all
After a soft sunset

Tomorrow we see if Migs can drive…

Rolled into Moab around noon. did the fins'n'things trail before I went over to the registration.

Lots of nice folks there. Shout-out to my friends in line with their beautiful shale blue grenadier from Georgia! Loved the bull bar. Also shout-out to Bill who recognized my first name from the forum name (I'm par).

Tech inspection. They saw the 3-4 rock kisses from the trail on my rival skid plate.. Not bad just some scratches. Great day so far!

I don’t know where or when this happened, but it looks like some participants had “percussion modifications” made to the exhausts of their Grenadiers.IMG_9774.jpeg

Like in the Toyota world where the same thing happens, it's time to cut the tips off and have it exit under the vehicle! In our 4Runner I had to do that on the trail while on the KAT

Day 5 Pre Rally rally
(Late report because there was so much to do at the actual rally)

We were all up early to check on Migs and were treated to this lovely sunrise
IMG_3228.jpeg
After more efforts to get Mig’s ankle stablized and everyone pitched in to get his gear packed and his truck loaded, he decided he could drive with left foot braking and limited throttle. So we made some extra strong coffee and upped the Vitamin I dosage.
IMG_3231.jpeg
After everyone got their own gear stowed in the trucks we started the route back out.
IMG_3245.jpeg
MiGs did great , even with fill-in spotters, because he could not get out to check lines himself.
IMG_3249.jpeg
IMG_3241.jpeg
imagejpeg_0.jpeg

After a long time and some rock stacking for the low truck (us) we got out of the rocks and onto Sand Flats road
IMG_3253.jpeg
MTN4x4 was running low on radio battery by this time so we all just caravanned to the hospital
IMG_3258.jpeg
MiGs was stuck it the ER for hours. Apparently fractured both lower leg bones. What a boss to drive out! Unfortunately that was the end of wheeling for the Pre- Rally Rally

We were in Moab a day early, but the ideas of the White Rim trial as a finish ride evaporated under the stress of a ‘lost time’ injury and sorrow that our buddy was going to miss the real rally.

Migs hotel’d it that night and headed home the next day. ( Octoberfest staff was great and gave us all his swag-which I’ll mail up)
Mtn4x4 went out and camped in the desert.
We hotel’d it and spent the afternoon in the pool with adult beverages, reflecting on a good adventure.

From comfy homes, to nearly 13,000 ft and across Poughkeepsie’s rocks to Como Lake, from RimRocker’s big night skies, Geyers 10600’ fire roads and Porcupine Rim’s steep shelf rock and injurious sandy stone, we had crossed some wild, and widely varied terrain. Adventures usually have highs and lows. These were more drastic than usual.

Regardless, it was an Adventure!
- new places, new faces, new friends-

Our poolside ruminations all happened as we watched Octoberfesters roll into town in their shiny and clean Grenadiers, past our filthy little truck, banged skid plates and full trasharoo. Soon, they too would be covered in Utah’s ruddy brown dust, and many would show a new skid plate scuff or three.

Thanks to everyone who came along and to all those that wished us well when their commitments kept them away! I’m pretty sure we weren't the first Grenadiers along the Rim Rocker, but we certainly had the most fun in the dust during the day and under the Milky Way at night, and we were the first pre rally rally Grenadiers ever. A good cocktail napkin plan should never be underestimated.

Here is a link to the pics I took from the event. I had to leave Saturday morning for my brother's birthday party so only pics from Thursday and Friday.
Enjoy!

And yeah, I renamed it to GrenadierFest. Seemed more appropriate to me, especially if it is happening again in May!

I wanted to send a note of thanks to the sponsors of the event.
I really had a great time to get to know you all and it was so nice to see you out on the trail showing that your trucks are built to be used and not just for show.

I had a really nice chat to a young man from owl who was super nice. Really looking forward to do more business with owl.

I enjoyed the long discussion I had with agile off-road and his amazing battery setup. It was super cool and the remote switches on the overhead panel to a completely separate to a 200ah lithium battery was super nice. The solar and starlink integration was next level. The suspension was no joke either, really interesting setup.

Ran with the eibach crew on a trail and that car performed really well. It looked super stock but the team shared that they had installed 1.7" of lift in the rear with a linear spring and some new triple coil front suspension paired with new sway bars. That car ran with ease over things I had to navigate. Super cool setup I intend to learn more about.

Saw a bunch of cool drawer systems, I dropped some cash on more overland gear guys bags and it was just a great time.

Really appreciated the Ineos marketing boss being there, a good show of support. Thanks for the commute cup (and yea it fits).

Thanks to team warner for the tech inspection and just being really good guys. I'm so happy I bought my car from you despite living 12 hours by car from your shop. Todd and crew a real legends.

Lots of others too that I'm forgetting. Thanks all drivers for the friendship, some of you I knew from before, some from the forum and many new faces. It's been a pleasure and I can't wait to do it again with you all!

Donate to Blue ribbon coalition y'all. It's what keeps the trails open to us.

I believe some vendors did Hell's Revenge and got some new mods there doing lines not provided in the event. :)
A handful of us were out in Moab all week testing some new parts (and some really bad lines) and the exhausts were smooshed on a couple Grenadiers in the name of product research.

@Migs Sorry you missed out, I hope all heals well and you are able to make the next one (apparently in May)!
