I’ve been trying to find a rigid cargo storage bin with a lid that would fit up behind the back seats in the cargo area.

Something vertically short and as long as it can be, but not deep — with the goal being it could always live there without really being in the way of using the cargo area for other things. Also would like a hinged lid.

It would be for stuff I’d always want in there — bungee cords, tools, towels, emergency kit and first aid kit, small battery-powered car jumper thingy — stuff like that.

I’ll probably eventually get the Bison side bins and maybe the Bison cargo roof shelf that you can slide stuff into, but not sure I’d want them for this stuff.

I’ve looked at the expandable canvas ones with lids and I feel like they kind of look sloppy. I found a couple more rigid expandables on Amazon but not sure they’re as good as the pictures.

Long story short, I’m picky.

Long story short. I have long list for you to look at: :)

STORAGE BOXES
  1. TRED Storage boxes here.;
  2. Expedition 134 Storage boxes, Review here;
  3. Razed Products rooftop storage boxes, Model 1, Model 2 and Model 3;
  4. A full off-road power solution built into an Expedition 134 box here;
  5. Pelican Cargo cases;
  6. Pioneer Storage boxes;
  7. Dometic GO Hard Storage 50L, look here (recommended by @globalgregors);
  8. BOAB Storage Boxes here;
  9. Wolf Pack Pro by Front Runner;
  10. CAOS cases and boxes;
  11. Roof Rack Mount for Front Runner Wolf Pack; and
  12. The Plastic Man, look here.
There is also a large choice in canvas bags, but you stated you would like a hinged lid. A couple of these canvas bags come in handy, there is a whole thread on them here (Australian focused but it gives you ideas). Crashpad, DRIFTA, underkover and Blacksmith Camping Supplies is a great place to start.

The Crashpods below are not solid, but they are much more rigid than a normal canvas bag, they have a canvas outer, a thin foam centre and a PVC inner layer. Look for a US source of PVC bags, if interested.

The Blacksmith below is thick canvas but not as rigid as the Crashpod.

underkover canvas do ship to the US.

There are also several variations of the drawer systems like I’m going with as I like the slide out capabilities of accessing stuff in the back of the cargo area near the back seats as well as it being lockable.

The side bins are great. But if you have a Trialmaster then you can only get one for the passenger side currently until Bison works gets one modeled for the drivers side. I have the Amazon model as it was free to me.

Great suggestions. DocAus — your post is worthy of a sticky! Going to look at those.

ShootingCar — do you have the Bison slide in roof shelf in a couple of those pics? I think I really gotta get it.

I don’t have the Slide in Roof Shelf. I need the head room for my bird dog crates. I’m building up from the floor with my drawer and now my slide out table. I wanted the drawer to be tall to fit more stuff in it and have it accessible.
I do have clothes hanger rods that span across the ceiling to hang my fly rod tubes from but they’re not in in that pic.

I'll take a pic of what I did. Water tight aluminum boxes. Fits perfectly best to my fridge and I get a platform on top of them to put bags and other stuff on.

I'll take a pic in the morning. Edit, here are the pics:
I use aluminum boxes from alubox. I bought mine from aquipt outfitters in salt lake City. I was there for the grenadierfest and picked them up in person. Not very cheap but will last a lifetime.

They are stackable. I can put my fridge in next to them.

I use these silicon bungee cord looking things to tie down in the trunk. Bought them off a Instagram. Surprisingly useable and strong. I'm a few months in with them. I can't recall the name of the company that sold them but they have held my fridge and my gear like a champ.

I got the Bison storage brackets over rear tire wells along with under front seat storage bags mentioned above and fit all this type of stuff. But you might need more space. Plus there is some space under rear seat if you don’t have the 2nd battery
