This is my understanding of the generations.
Gen 1, original B58
Gen 2, otherwise known as the B58TU (technical upgrade) This is in the Grenadier.
Gen 3, or B58TU2. This one has both direct and port fuel injection. This is the problem child.
There are also variations within the generations I.e. high and low power versions.

That's not a new issue. The hurr-durr of the seventies with thick single weight oils and 3000km oil changes persists.

Short intervals hurt nothing in the vehicle, but are pretty darn wasteful of natural resources of they're only used to 30% of their capacity and discarded.

And nothing changes even when there are Toyota trucks with over 1.6 million km, towing/hauling for the majority of those, all run with 16,000 km oil changes of 0w20 in hot places like Texas.
I don’t know anyone running 0w20, not saying it doesn’t happen, but I run 5w40 here in Texas with the BMW LL01 spec and do oil changes every 5k miles, filter every 10k. I will never do the 12k miles. As far as being wasteful; we’re driving vehicles that get 13.5mpg and you’re talking 6 quarts of oil. Go ahead and change it more frequently.

Videos like that are why I hate the internet and unfortunately it's gonna get worse before it gets better. Here are more articles about the B58 that may or may not contradict what that video claims.

My recommendation? If you own a Grenadier with a B58, do the proper maintenance, don't abuse the crap out of it and chances are you will get tired of the Grenadier before you have a problem with the engine..

Every dealer serviced and factory fill Grenadier is running 0W20...
He said toyota trucks running 1.6m KM on 0w20 while towing and working and doing 12k km oil changes. But as far as the Grenaider goes that's exaclty why I don't follow their service plan. 12,000 miles on 0w20 is stupid.
