me tooMine is running 33” tyres. So the speedometer is almost bang on accurate. Probably why I haven’t yet cracked 30 mpg.
I saw gas on Interstate 10 between Phoenix and Tucson yesterday as low as $3.19 for unleaded. Should have filled up, as it's $3.49-$3.99 here. That's a US gallon, though, not a liter! Wow! At least the prices are slowly coming down, about 50c / gallon since summer.
There are, for the vast majority of drivers in the US, 2 camps, for highway driving. Most drive right at the posted speed limit, and the others, maybe 25% or more, drive at 9-10 mph over. Most cops give ~10 mph before stopping a driver for speeding, so that's the de facto speed limit. Posted 75 MPH, I usually set my cruise for 84.The Australian Design Rules
"The Australian Design Rules require that a vehicle’s speedo must not indicate a speed less than the vehicle’s true speed or a speed greater than the vehicle’s true speed by an amount more than 10 per cent plus 4 km/h.
This means that the vehicle’s true speed must not be higher than the speed indicated by the speedo. That is, at a true vehicle speed of 100km/h, the speedo must read between 100km/h and 114km/h. An alternative way to look at it is; at an indicated speed of 100km/h, the vehicle’s true speed must be between 86 km/h and 100km/h. Generally speaking, on modern cars the true speed is only a few km/h less that the indicated speed.
GPS speed readings can be accurate, but not always. It is therefore recommended that you use your vehicle’s speedo for consistency."
My experience on highways (as recent as last Thursday) is that most semi-trailers including B doubles travel right on the upper speed limit of the GPS.... and try to push you along to either increase yr speed or get out of the way.
I normally travel at the posted limit minus 5kmh...so I try to get out of their way....
Wish it were that low in CA - still about $6.29 for low grade gasI saw gas on Interstate 10 between Phoenix and Tucson yesterday as low as $3.19 for unleaded. It isn't inaccurate, it is intentional.@bemax thanks for clarifying. I always check the speedometer via GPS on a new vehicle and when I change tires to confirm accuracy. With 32” tires on my blue 1997 Land Cruiser it reads about 5% low (at 60mph indicated GPS shows 63mph). On my 2003 Land Cruiser with stock size tires it’s dead accurate GPS confirmed. Seems odd the Grenadier would be inaccurate out of the gate.
There are very few large petrol vehicles in these parts. And lots of small cars!I saw gas on Interstate 10 between Phoenix and Tucson yesterday as low as $3.19 for unleaded. Same in Italy as in Bayern...
In our part of the world... the road and traffic authorities doesn't normally relate the words "sensibly driven" with 80-85mph.... (130-138 kmh)... depending on the open road limit (100kmh or 110kmh) exceeding the posted limit from 20kmh-40+ kmh can set you back anywhere between several hundred dollars to over $1,000 plus numerous points loss....Now almost 7,000 miles. 70mph gives 25.5mpg, 80-85mph 22mpg. Local roads and shorter distances 20-26mpg. Diesel Trialmaster. Usually fairly light load and sensibly driven.
My suspicion is that the KO2 tyres give at least a 10% fuel penalty over the standard tyres, as well as being noisier, and less precise on the motorway. They are great off road but I suspect the standard tyres aren't too bad. Considering a set of standard tyres, at least for the summer.
Has anyone directly compared the two?
This is why I spec'd the standard 'stones on my Grenadier, and also why I decided $700 for the KO2 was wasting money. I have tried KO2's, sold them early, and never again. They do not do well in my traction-challenging conditions. My Gren is in production now. I plan to use the 'stones through next Summer for mostly road duty, then I'll swap for an aggressive 33" tire for Autumn/Winter trips. My suspicion is that the KO2 tyres give at least a 10% fuel penalty over the standard tyres, as well as being noisier, and less precise on the motorway. And here in Aus they went up 30c in 3 months!I saw gas on Interstate 10 between Phoenix and Tucson yesterday as low as $3.19 for unleaded. Should have filled up, as it's $3.49-$3.99 here. 30km over is loss of license in QLD, you get out of car, lock the door and walk away with someone else having to drive it home. Then you beg the magistrate to give you a 1-point working license. In our part of the world... the road and traffic authorities doesn't normally relate the words "sensibly driven" with 80-85mph.... So, I'll take your word for it!
I believe you are on the money regarding the fuel economy penalty of the K02 tyres... probably closer to 15% ... or $.0.30 /litre at current Aus. prices...
Hi matey that was a maths one, full tank to full tank [ 3 clicks on the pump] and then the distance on the run from the petrol station to petrol station on the sat nave, Its about the best I could come up with without using the onboard equipment but to be honest the odometer was only .8 of a mile different . hope this helps?Did that figure come from the truck's computer, or did you do the math (ie full tank, drove Xmiles, filled again, divided miles by fuel)?
Thanks for the reply - I'm trust my own math more than the car's if I'm honest. That way there's no questions about sensors, DTE, etc.Hi matey that was a maths one, full tank to full tank [ 3 clicks on the pump] and then the distance on the run from the petrol station to petrol station on the sat nave, Its about the best I could come up with without using the onboard equipment but to be honest the odometer was only .8 of a mile different . hope this helps?
Mind you now post software update will have to see if thats made any difference evidently its ment to improve fuel consumption slightly as its a smoother power delivery now

Reassuringly expensive. Almost approaching UK prices which today for me using diesel is circa $1.93 per litre = approx $7.31 per US gallon at exchange rate £1.00 = $1.21.Wish it were that low in CA - still about $6.29 for low grade gasView attachment 7831247
