It looks good and simple. I like that.

I ended up building my own simple shelf. I wanted a slide for my fridge but also the ability to store front runner storage bags.

I'm waiting on this too, otherwise, may have to build one like what Asnes has.

Looks good!

I'd build something myself but by the time I've bought the materials and put time into designing and making something to install it would cost me more than going to work and buying something off the shelf in this price range. My plan is to mount a fridge slide on one side of the platform, that way I can take the fridge out and still have a level surface for when I need to carry larger items.

A full custom install with fridge on one side and drawers on the other with a platform above would be great for touring but pricey and not so practical for day to day use...

Scott Brady was the first to use it. He seemed to like it while driving across africa
His was a little different, I think the cargo area side of things was more or less the same but was modified to fold out and fill in the back seat area to make a sleeping platform. But it's a part of the reason I'm so interested in it with his thoughts on it during his Africa trip, and I've been more than happy with everything else I've got from Frontrunner!

I had never heard of or seen “Front Runner” products before now. I like seeing different applications of similar products as gives us choices. I also like its simplistic approach for a rear cargo set up. It is kind of amazing just how many Grenadier vendors there are out there now. If any are reading this, thank you all!!! 👍🙏

For further info, the fridge slide I'm looking at is the Dometic/Frontrunner item for the CFX3 55IM (already have the fridge).

The platform depth of the storage system is long enough for this (25mm longer than the slide assembly). My idea was that I'd mount the slide to the storage system using the T-slot on the left and rear (front when at the back of the vehicle) which would give 30mm clearance at the front (rear of the slide) to clear the angled back seat.

With the slide being designed for the Dometic CFX3 55 there is 4 mounting points for the fridge in the slide (though the bottom) so you don't have to use straps through the handles to tie the fridge to the slide, though I'd like to use them as well given the corrugations I often drive on, worst case I may have to remove the rear handle to clear the seat and only use the front handle to put straps thorugh for additional security.

Sounds very close to my system. The fridge is removed and a drop in shelf is bolted in. As a full platform the metal edging is hidden by foam mats and a sheet of carpet. Drawer is on Teflon like runners. Fridge slide is 'slideitsolutions' I have a 36L water tank behind the drawer system. It sits slightly proud and lines up with cargo barrier. Front runner boxes fit perfectly on top of drawer. Double stacked, they are close to same height as my bushman fridge. Ideally I want a shelf just above these but next purchase will be the kaon molle panels and higher shelf. Maybe another shelf could be attached to molle panels. Will wait and see.
Fridge slide. Water tank materials and fixings all added up to just shy of $1000Aud. Nothing came close to the tolerances I achieved. And also not much out at the time of construction.

How would you mount this to the track? Using some track insert with threads on them and screw it in?

The storage unit is assembled with M6 nuts/bolts slid into the T-slot, fridge slide mounting holes are also M6 so should be pretty straighforard.

I find it interesting how exactingly specific they were in noting the measurements of their extrusions in the assembly instructions. It's certainly a nice head start for anyone looking to DIY and order pre-cut extrusions.

Extrusions aren't cheap! And unless you have the cutting equipment you'll be left going to a 3rd party for it, Bunnings won't get you the required accuracy... The price is pretty good if you factor in material/tool/time costs.

Does anyone know of somewhere that has the Frontrunner storage system in stock?
No... Not even in stock not their site, if anyone knows where I can get one, let me know!

Following. I live near their store and keep thinking.about it. It would beat the pelican box mounted to the airline track.

I'd ignore the "precision" of the above measurements. They are most probably the results of a 3D scan.
How about 1075mm, 250mm, 725mm,1130mm, 225mm and 1000mm respectively:unsure: ;)

I'm installing mine as we speak. It was in stock at Frontrunner a week or so ago. Quality components, well packed, but a nightmare to assemble. It comes with tons of bolts and nuts and other little parts. Had to print the manual (20 pages) to be able to identify each component (listed in mm). It looks very simple from the pictures, but more complicated to put together than Davinci's code. Also no videos around on the assembly. Product itself 5 stars, assembly 1 star and that's being generous.

Has Frontrunner been acquired by IKEA?
