First of all.
Thanks so much to Henry who took the pictures and video.
He is a member of the forum and reached out to pick me up from the train station.
I walked out to see his Donny Gray Grenadier parked and waiting.
It was a great way to link the forum, the train ride and the trip to ignition ineos dealership.

Today I did 381 kms of driving over a mixture of (in order)
  • city traffic
  • 4 lane in each direction motorway
  • 2 lane each way highway
  • 1 lane each way country highway
  • 1 lane each way country poor condition/patchwork B road
  • patchy blacktop with no lanes
  • finally country gravel/dirt.
Henry showed me that he turns the key on, puts on his seatbelt, then starts the vehicle.
Result no alarms.
I liked the theory and standardised technique and have been using it.
On the way I changed seating position several times, each time refining it to a very comfortable place.
Possibly one or two minor adjustments to come.

Elephants in the room:
Steering
  • first few turns swung wide and overcorrected the wheel.
  • In traffic focussed on staying in narrow lanes so lost focus on wheel.
  • On motorway no problem and experimented with hands off with no problems.
  • Country roads the vehicle tends to tram line a bit and follow the camber of the road. As we have tropical downpours the roads have extreme camber.
  • First time driving into a parking space was embarrassing. Had to reverse out for a second take. Luckily nobody was watching.
  • poor quality country roads showed how good the steering is at making up for crap road surface.
It took about 30 minutes to get used to it and no longer notice.

Mirrors
  • strangely small compared to vehicle.
  • Both pushed as far out as possible.
  • worked ok
  • view out rear window ok for a large 4wd
  • no blind spot as easy to turn head and look out rear passenger windows. (anyone have problems should do neck exercises or try yoga).

Display/switchgear
  • It took me about 10 minutes to get used to glancing to the left to see speed instead of looking down below wheel rim to see speed. Not a problem.
  • Fonts are very small so sadly it showed up my failing eyesight. Not a problem in my Mercedes or wife's mini.
  • Writing on overhead switches impossible to read while driving. will need to become memory items.
  • i can easily see that after i finish showing friends all the wonderful screens, most will never be viewed again.
  • Reversing camera screen could be better but it works ok.
  • Phone synced easily and zero problems with waze map using apple carplay

Thanks for the update Dave.(y) Hope you get much quiet enjoyment and that your shed project stays on "cost and schedule" ;)
Did lads at the dealership say whether or not they'd performed even a partial software update??

Squeaks, rattles and noises.
  • i didn't have any music on for the trip home ( 4 hours) as i wanted to hear for any issues.
  • Lots of wind noise but low volume.
  • Safari windows open over 80 kmh is a noise festival.
  • very little road noise
  • No tyre noise (BFG K02)
  • No squeaks, rattles or wierd sounds.
  • No suspension bump stop bangs despite rough roads.
  • Talked to wife on phone and no issues at all with apple phones and hand free.

Said no software update done as it is not yet approved for install in Australia.
They will not be installing it until approved and tested

Driving experience. (keeping in mind i have been driving a Mercedes coupe for last 5 years )
  • Initially very large (not by US standards) but quickly shrinking around me.
  • Very good take off from lights when needed.
  • Extremely good overtaking capability (not anywhere near as good as Mercedes) diesel just pulls and pulls.
  • motorway done at 110 (ish) to to 140 kmh before cross winds caused problems.
  • Overtaking very easy
  • vision around, to the side and straight ahead fantastic.
  • 100kmh cruising effortless.
