Went to see the <love him or hate him> comedian Jimmy Carr last night. The late show , finished at midnight.
Got a call at 9 this morning from my brother to say our dad had died peacefully overnight , at home with family nearby. Not unexpected ; he was 96 with a terminal illness. Like me , and for various reasons, he enjoyed dark humour. He would have laughed at this one!

Sorry for your loss mate.
96 is a bloody good innings. I hope he lived a good life.

That's a very respectable age.

My father in law was 97 when he died, and the final six month were a pain for him.

So your father shall R.I.P.

@Tazzieman : I'm sure your Dad was proud of you and rested content that his decision to emigrate all those years ago to Van Diemen's Land no less 😲 , has paid off in spades! My Dad passed away three yrs ago which made me an orphan in my 70s...and I don't particularly like it !
Peace to you all!

Being of cockney stock , he wasn't fond of posh people.
Even though he became a medical specialist he avoided all the wanky medico types.
He was also very practical.
I installed 2x240v strip lights yesterday. As always , when fiddling with electrical stuff one of dad's favourite poems was running around my head.
This is by Hilaire Belloc
