I looked through this Forum but I did not find what I was loooking for.

I owned several Landrover Defender for about 30 years.
In our German Forum for Defender, we used to maintain a list that You could take with You, when checking a used truck.

It would be nice if everybody would contribute his experiences with the Grenadier when it comes to apperently problems.
I'am talking about faults You can find out in the moment of testing, not faults, that might appear after weeks of driving.

Examples for questions You can answere on the first date:

- Do the door nobs jump out after pressing
- Does the heating get warm
- Is engine cooling liquid missing in container

Please feel free and help to complete the list!

Regards Horst

- visible signs of water ingress from safari windows?
- can the cap of the NATO socket be unscrewed?

All of the above plus does it drive in a straight line. Check underneath for damage and any dangling wires/hoses.

I don't think that any of the issues raised above should be a dealbreaker. They are all minor and can easily be rectified under warranty. The Grenadier has not been around long enough for any dealbreaker faults to emerge.
Just get the one you want at the right price!

My climate control system is very annoying. It requires constant attention. This is a bigger pain in the ass than one would find when simply test driving as it takes time to wear on you.

Good initiative, @Sauerländer. I would add
  • A/C charge level check
  • Battery charging performance check
  • Transfer case cable rubbing
  • Any leakage from diffs or center transfer case
  • Alignment/centering on steering
  • Check steering pump noise (compare to 2 others - it will be noisy, just a question if it is more so than others)

That’s about all I can think of off the top of my head.

Check the front and rear propschafts if they are dry. Follow the brake and other lines/wiring from front to back if they are still all at there place.
Check if the two small radiators left and right behind the bumper are still at there place.

- Squealing PS pump. Apparently some are off the charts.
- Leaky doors/loose/incorrect door seals
- Water intrusion from the skylights.
- Stickie door latches
- HVAC cycles thru its functions correctly.
- Mystery rattling/noise caused apparently by loose wiring/cables in A pillar or underneath.
- centered wheel
- Steering column. With the grenadier shut down turn the steering back and forth a few degrees. It should be silent, with no play. If there’s any knocking sound then it’s a new column for you.
- The upper windshield trim, in the center, pops out a bit on some.
- Confirm the pin in the t-case shifter isn't falling out already
- foot well water TSB https://www.theineosforum.com/threads/footwell-water-ingress-cabin-filter.12415588/#post-1333286773
- Fan whistle noise when AC or Front Window Demist is on (Fan Speed level 4) - workaround: don’t use level 4 and don’t use automatic mode
- Headlight daylight sensor not working - workaround: turn off manually
