My lid was smooth-running right from the start. My dealer checked every little detail before delivery. Even this lid.
Strange. Same dealer, but different experience...

Had to brutally break it open first time. Applied Mike Sanders to the thread several times, better now, but you want to open it every other week to keep it from seizing.

My suspicion is the problem is related to the mounting position. That tilted position allows (salt-)water to accumulate in the threads of the cap rather than to flow out.

Never heard of that product, so I looked at its Safety Data Sheet (AU). It is pretty nasty stuff especially for aquatic life, but I would not want it on my hands, when I can use Tef-Gel instead.
Regarding the offocial and standarized tests no harm for skin and the human body. However, I always use gloves when working with any kind of oil oder chemical products.

The AU Safety Data Sheet does not sound so benign. "Do not get on skin or clothing". Also

You'll find that dogs will chase you 😉
And Kiwis. :ROFLMAO:

Shell Ensis Fluid is a rust prevenitive product and back in the day, 1980 I applied it to my then new MQ patrol in a cow paddock on a vehicle ramp. After the job was finished back to the farmhouse for a beer on the verandah and then watched with amazement the cows gathered and gave the exposed areas a thorough licking. They cleaned the overspray from the body panels...brilliant(y)

Aaah, I better have another look 👍

Wonder if there's a way of placing another gasket on either part to stop water etc ingress into the threads....
A liberal smear of lanolin or petroleum jelly on the threads will act to create a water barrier. Both products are hydrophobic and non-drying.

I reckon the odd farmer sprayed himself 😉

Opened mine up today because of this thread and the cap came off without much trouble. The inside had what appears to be dielectric grease.

It was all mixed with dust/dirt so I cleaned it up and reapplied.

Thanks OP

Tried to open mine today - seized tight. Tried a little heat and large Channellocks, with no joy. Hosed it down with PB Blaster overnight, but I think it is unlikely enough of it will soak into the threads. Washed the truck pretty regularly this winter, but my guess is the salt treatment up here in New England did a number on it. I did not put any antiseize/dialectic grease on last fall, so I guess this one is on me :)

Might have to make the drive of shame to the dealer if today is a repeat...

Just to make it clear, the Molykote 1000 is not a grease. It is anti-seize with a fixed friction coefficient. I would never grease my wheel studs......

In the subsea oil & gas industry, we often have Tronic connectors seize for the same reasons. Some light and fast tapping around the cap using the edge of a spanner, etc will often free up the connection regardless of corrosion.
I would try that first.
