My lid was smooth-running right from the start. My dealer checked every little detail before delivery. Even this lid.
Strange. Same dealer, but different experience...

Had to brutally break it open first time. Applied Mike Sanders to the thread several times, better now, but you want to open it every other week to keep it from seizing.

My suspicion is the problem is related to the mounting position. That tilted position allows (salt-)water to accumulate in the threads of the cap rather than to flow out.

Never heard of that product, so I looked at its Safety Data Sheet (AU). It is pretty nasty stuff especially for aquatic life, but I would not want it on my hands, when I can use Tef-Gel instead.
Regarding the offocial and standarized tests no harm for skin and the human body. However, I always use gloves when working with any kind of oil oder chemical products.

The AU Safety Data Sheet does not sound so benign. "Do not get on skin or clothing". Also

You'll find that dogs will chase you 😉
And Kiwis. :ROFLMAO:

Shell Ensis Fluid is a rust prevenitive product and back in the day, 1980 I applied it to my then new MQ patrol in a cow paddock on a vehicle ramp. After the job was finished back to the farmhouse for a beer on the verandah and then watched with amazement the cows gathered and gave the exposed areas a thorough licking. They cleaned the overspray from the body panels...brilliant(y)

Are you missing something @ECrider?
The entire inside of my cap is covered by a rubber gasket.
Aaah, I better have another look 👍

Wonder if there's a way of placing another gasket on either part to stop water etc ingress into the threads....

A liberal smear of lanolin or petroleum jelly on the threads will act to create a water barrier. Both products are hydrophobic and non-drying.
