We can't pump for ourselves in NJ so I always need to ask the employee not to top off. Doesn't necessarily mean they won't mind you. I think it's just us and Oregon who are prohibited from using the gas station.
ooohhh.. I just went thru going to NY last week. It always seems weird having someone pump. Many of them don't speak adequate English, I wonder how many times you're gonna get topped.

I just got my first engine light today right after fueling (can't remember if I added extra after first click) but this is probably my 8-10 fill up. I have a Foxwell NT630 OBD scan tool. Updated the codes on the scanner (I hope) and tried to clear. It found the VIN via autoVIN but couldn't ID the make and model. Ran the diagnostics, found the three codes in the pictures. Hit clear and two went away. One did not. Told me to clear codes with vehicle on / engine off. Did that a couple of times but car would beep in protest and OBD would spin but still wouldn't clear. Sigh. What a pain

UPDATE - after not clearing, my posting here and looking up the Obdlink Mx+ cost (150ish USD Amazon), I started up and was going to do a hail Mary with the OBD scanner at O'Riley's but when I started up the code was cleared. So while not a super slick process I don't have to go to the dealer before my brother rides in my Grenny and rags on me that my new car has an engine light on. I'll take an eventual cleared code for a win.

UPDATE: Rusnak cleared the lights, and all is great now.

I have to admit to this esteemed crowd that deep, deep down I am really shallow. :) I can't begin to describe the joy that it gives me every time I see someone go around my parked Grennadier, oozing with admiration. I caught two loud "wow!" from where I was having lunch. As I said, shallow.:ROFLMAO:

I haven’t had the engine light issue but was at the dealership picking up my permanent plates. I asked the service guy and he stated Ineos said fix should be out soon. He also said he recommends the Ancel AD410 OBD reader to clear the codes. US Amazon link below. ($44.99 on Amazon)
ANCEL AD410 Enhanced OBD II... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071FSNL73/?tag=globalgrena0b-20

I luckily haven’t had the engine light so can’t confirm the OBD reader works but thought I would pass the info on as it’s cheaper than some of the OBD readers that others have recommended….

Newcomer to this thread, as it took me 4800 miles to finally suffer from this problem. Took it to AutoZone as I’m far from a dealer… no help. So I ordered the Mx+ people are talking about on here. It’s showing the same three codes as everyone else, but has yet to successfully clear them. Anybody got any obvious “stupid new guy” mistakes to check for me? Thanks.

Mine simply will not clear. Tried two readers that both saw the same code for the fuel level sensor but cannot clear it. It’s pissing me off as this is three weeks now, my dealer’s two service techs are out on vacation, and it’s preventing cruise control.

Any other advice from anyone?

I have been watching this thread because I always brim my fuel tank, always have done, diesel and petrol vehicles.
Is this warning light a petrol engine issue since it only appears to US vehicles? Do diesels have any evaporation issue or is it just fitted on petrol engines

Mines a petrol engine at it was the norm in most garages I went to on my African travels to brim full my tank. Never had any issues.

Thanks, but what I do know is US vehicles have different software, so I'll just keep brimming, I'll find it hard to change the habit of a lifetime

I've filled up my tank 5 or 6 times but yesterday after filling up the check engine light came on. My dealer, Elliot Bay, informed me this has happened to a couple people when overfilling the gas tank. I did not overfill it, just let the gas pump shut off automatically. The code is P0461, which is for the fuel level sensor circuit. I was able to get the fault cleared at O'Reilly's since the dealer is over an hour away. I also noticed that when the check engine light is on the cruse control does not work. As soon as I got the fault cleared the cruise controls works again.

Not sure if all new cars have a fuel level sensor but I didn't have one in my LR4, that I'm aware of, so first time having to be concerned about overfilling.
The same thing happened to me today. I have 1100 miles on my IG. I got a cheap OBD 2 scanner and was able to clear the code. I did squeeze the gas handle a second time after it shut off, but I've done this with every prior fill.

Same issue here. Light on after first fill up and cruise control not working. Dealer is 2 hours away. Several have mentioned "clearing with code reader". And someone mentioned O'Reilly's. Any suggestions on where I could take it besides dealer, that would have a code reader and ability to clear? Do typical auto supply shops like Advance Auto, etc.. have those and provide that service?
I bought an Innova 5010 from O'Reilly Auto Parts for $38 and it will clear the code. I'm 2+ hours from the dealer so it was cheaper than a tank of gas.

My brother had a CEL message last night in his IG. He purchased an Innova 5110 from O’Reilly’s and had the P0461 fuel level sensor circuit error that he managed to clear with the tool.
He claims the CEL came on after refueling and that he did NOT top off the tank.
What is the fix for this as there is no dealer within a few hours of driving?
He is also a member here. I am asking since I am very curious about this before it happens to my wagon.

Thanks.

In the short term the only”fix” is to clear the code and go about your business. That said, the forthcoming software update is designed to fix the P0461 CEL error.

Thank you. Is the fuel level and range display affected by this? My wife and I will be making a longish trip (hee hee) in our MM wagon in the next few weeks and I would like to know what to expect if the same error occurs.

I’m not sure if the range calculator is affected. I’ve only had the CEL happen once and once cleared things seemed normal. One crappy thing-if a CEL is on, cruise control will not work. It’s annoying. I understand why they do that but it’s annoying nonetheless.

I believe it's when you 'over tighten' the screw cap that this fault occurs. After refueling, when you place the cap on the filler just turn until it clicks once and you won't have a fault.
