The A/T3Ws are a little lighter and have a slightly softer tire compound (the new fourth W is for Wear). I've had 255/80/17 A/T3Ws on several other vehicles (and A/T3Ws on everything I've owned in the past 6 years) so I kept on with what I knew.

With that being said, I just replaced a pair of tires on our Sprinter from A/T3Ws to the new BFG KO3s due to a puncture that couldn't be fixed (and no Wildpeaks in stock), and I'm genuinely impressed. We had KO2s on the Sprinter originally, then A/T3Ws, and now 2 KO3s in the middle of a fairly snowy road trip through the Rockies. What I've noticed is that the KO3s have notably more packed snow traction than the KO2s, and at least the same if not more than the A/T3Ws
 
When I go through the stock tires I was looking at the A/T3W LT255/80R17 121/118R E which I believe are the 33 inch tires and a bit narrower? Does BFG manufacture a similar size in the KO3s. What do you recommend for a tire with a similar size as the A/T3W?

Tire options in 255/80R17

There are likely a few others not listed here but this list is pretty comprehensive.

BFG does not currently sell the KO3 in this size.

Another really good option is the Toyo ATIII in 34x10.5R17. Just a bit taller but still quite narrow and a nice low weight.

If they offered a KO3 in 255/80r17 I’d have gone that route. There are some solid options in this exact size way though. I was tempted to give the Toyo Open Country RT Trails a go. But I live in Colorado and we deal with snowy passes well into the spring so the snow rating on the AT4w is welcome.

I used to run AT3ws and I do think they did a little better in the snow and are a little smoother. I have 32 inch at4ws on my truck that are kind of wide and they’re a bit stiff. The tall skinny 255/80r17 at4w doesn’t feel nearly as stiff at 34psi though. I think it’s about as good of a 33 inch pizza cutter as you can get.

On the Grenadier, no; but I've clocked about a dozen hours in a LC200 with HD Terrains and have seen that truck move through plenty of dirt/mud... They are definitely louder than an A/T on the highway, but not quite as loud as a M/T; but that is to be expected with their tread pattern

Yup. 285-75-17. Louder and rougher ride than the stock KO2s, but not more than expected for treads closer to mud profile.

I really love those tires and that look I was just afraid of how much gas mileage I'd give up going to that size and how it would handle stock springs at full flex. Have you taken it offroad with these new beasts? I'm about to go to a spot where I can fully flex even my new 33s to make sure we're all good.

They have only been on the truck for 20 miles or so, so I haven’t been able to get a good mileage number.

It looks like they have enough room for full articulation, but it’s probably going to be spring, before I get a chance to get off road beyond gravel.
 
I'm probably going with KM3s, but those HD terrains or the Nitto Trail Grapplers might be a hybrid option too. I don't mind MT road noise, I ran Grabber X3s on my '22 Defender for the last 40k miles I had it and they were amazing off road and decent on road (if loud by the end). LR's brake traction control should take some credit but I was confident if I could get those tires up against any reasonable obstacle, I could crawl it and I never had a doubt about the sidewalls which I do with most ATs.

My guess after 1k miles on the stock ko2s is that even the loudest MT tires will not be heard over the wind noise at 50mph+, especially as I'm going to add a roof rack as well.

For what it's worth, adding the LFD Full Length roof rack actually got rid of most of the wind noise from the windshield/safari windows
