New Winch Manual

I do not really understand the question of leaving a short part of the rope out of the fairlead. There should always be some rope left out of the fairlead. Depending on how your end of the rope looks like, there is no other way. Pulling the rope with the hook or the rope eye against the fairlead or a mounting point you get some light tension on the rope, which holds everything in place and prevents rattling. Pulling the rope completely in would lead to what....a rope that you must fiddle out again through the fairlead?n And it would have no tension to keep it on the drum.

However, the rope should not be without a light tension.

But what is more important is, that you pull it out after usage at least as long as you have used it and that you coil it up again nice and orderly. Rope should be orderly lie next to rope. What should not happen is, that the rope of a higher layer pulls itself between two adjacent ropes of a lower layer. That could lead to heavy shock loads when you apply load.

Of course, but the information suggested that it needed to be more like 250mm not just the loop. Hopefully this is not/no longer the case

The manual leaves lots out that was included in the Red Winches version ~ have you looked at that?

From more recent photos of the winch, it's clear to see what the issue and why the final spliced length can't be fully spooled onto the drum.

In all the photos of the front winch I've seen, where the rope is visible, it's always been hanging out by just about the length of the splice.

I presume you’ve been in Neutral with engine running? Maybe even before throwing the 500A switch? My winch then continues to work in D and R but drops out if Park selected.
I guess you’ve tried all that, though…

You can get it to work with engine off in car wash mode thats useful as the NATO plug is also live in that configuration.

The soft shackles are very safe, quick and easy to use and do not cause many injuries. Frustrating but sensible. Thank you for the winch manual, how did you get it?

Agreed on the soft shackles they are very safe. @CountyV8 posted the winch manual on this forum. First post on this thread. The point of my message above is that I think Ineos should have supplied an S-ring 50 with the winch if you are supposed to fit one into the winch end loop and then attaching a soft shackle through that to your attachment point

I have version 0.5, in pdf, that means it is also a draft version.

If @Stu_Barnes allows me to send it to him, he can put it in the resources, but in fact, the version that is available here, in the resources, is much more informative in my humble opinion (IMHO)

That is indeed version 0.5, the version I have.

Why do I say that it is draft? Usually in IT and other domains, as long as the version is draft, the first number is 0. This is version 0.5, therefore the 5-th draft version. Once they publish officially a version, it becomes 1.0. I guess Ineos / Red Winches is doing the same.
